Driving home in the mornings from work is usually pretty dull and honestly I enjoy it that way.  I listen to the local radio station's morning show and lately its been pretty bad.  This morning, the brand new guy decides to ask the morning listeners what is more important to them than sex ( Read more... )

First let me state, that for me sex is a high priority just slightly behind love and friends, and I have in fact walked away in the middle of video games to have sex. I've actually had sex while playing an FPS and MUDding.

You say things like "No honey, not tonight, I have a raid." sarcastically, but it's not as far fetched as you may believe. Would you leave in the middle of a football game you were playing in to have sex? You wouldn't be on the team any longer. It's not an issue of football being MORE IMPORTANT than sex, it's that you already made a commitment to others to be there. Playing a videogame by yourself is one thing, but raiding is a team commitment.

The problem that comes up is when your significant other doesn't recognize this commitment, because the team you are on is one she can't see and has never met. She sees you sitting in front of your computer, and has a hard time visualizing your teamspeak crew. Which is where the whole "the game is more important" mentality comes from. Ask that same woman if she'd ever walk onto a football field and drag her significant other away for some sex. Oh, she would? Can you give her my number? Only football players huh? Okay never mind.

If you have an addiction that means you aren't having any sex or giving your significant other the attention and care they deserve, that is a serious problem. Gaming is certainly easy to become addicted to. We all know that guy who didn't finish college because of evercrack. But if you're just a casual raider and your significant other can't seem to grasp the concept of a team commitment, she is far too selfish to be in a committed relationship with. Find someone who respects what you do even if they don't understand it. Sex with someone who cares about and respects you is way better.
