[music| A Dream Worth Keeping//Sheena Easton]

All right. Just got home from seeing Across the Universe with Gail and I've got a review for it.

Let me start off by saying this movie is easily one of the most breathtaking, beautiful, and mind-blowing films I have seen in the short expansion that is fifteen years of my life.

I had a feeling it would be absolutely spectacular but it was so much more. The plot, the acting, the cinematography, THE MUSIC. Everything was simply phenomenal.

Music first? All right. Well, it was The Beatles. I'm sorry but you just can't go wrong with them. Especially when they're aiding the passionate stories of passionate youth during the Vietnam War. The fact that the cast sang it rather than remixes just playing in the background helped as well. It made the audience connect more to the movie. It did for me at least.

The chosen songs for specific scenes were beautiful and such intelligent choices. It made the tears leaking from my eyes fall with much more frailty. Shivers ran down my spine and it was just dazzling.

I thing my only tiff about the music was that they didn't play my favourite song which is, of course, Here Comes The Sun. It's fine because the movie is still mind-blowing but I personally would have loved to have heard that song. Oh well.

Well, this movie certainly was an acid trip. I mean, honestly--it was CRAZY. But that's what made the film unique and wonderful and made me love it more and more with each passing moment. The scenes were crazy cool and the angles of the cameras were fantastic. There was cartoon land, distorted colours, abstract art and blending two scenes together and it was just amazing. It had to be one of the best aspects of the entire movie.

I have so many favourite scenes but a couple have to be when Max is being initiated into the Army, the scene where they sang Strawberry Fields (with the strawberries being bombs and seeing both Jude and Max), and the entire ending. And when Jude burst into the whole anti-war building place where Lucy worked.

That first scene I mentioned was so weird and the choreography was amazing. I love how all the soldiers were chiseled and it was just awesome. The picture of Uncle Sam coming to life was kinda freaky, though. And poor Max getting inducted into the army even after eating the cotton balls. D:

Speaking of choreography, that was also fantastic--especially with the business people during Come Together.

The passion of the scenes were spectacular. I loved when Jude saw the paper (when he was back in Liverpool) about the bomb going off killing Americans and then it exploded and he was on the beach. That was sweet. Oh, and the beginning scenes at Princeton with the golf balls and totally getting trashed were great, enjoyable scenes.

I also thought there were some really risky but intelligent choices for this movie. I am extremely happy that Max was the main singer for Hey Jude and that Jude and Lucy were reunited on rooftops across the street instead of the same one. In a subtle, abstract way I thought it was much more powerful.

Characters? I love them all but I'm torn between Max and Jude being my favourite. Max is such a great character because he's this smug ass who just wants to live life and is changed when he has to go to war and fight. You can see the change in him and how it affects him. Jude is just...well, he's Jude. I'm completely smitten with him. <3

The whole idea of this movie is just unfathomable. I was crying--oh yes. As I do in every movie. But this one was just so tragic and powerful.

I was reading an interview with Jim Sturgess (whom I totally have a crush on now along with Joe Anderson) and how the cast was seeing a screening of it and Ringo Starr was sitting in front of them, tapping their foot. I thought that was fantastic.

Speaking of actors, the acting in this movie was just...wow. And they all have such beautiful voices. Maybe not conventional Hollywood voices but ones that really suited the raw power and emotion of the movie and its theme.

OMG. I knew I recognized Joe Anderson (Max)! He played Henry in Becoming Jane! No wonder I loved him so much--he's a superb actor and I love both characters I've seen him as. I really look forward to seeing the main actors of this movie branch out--I hope to see them in many more movies to come. Which I'm already excited for because they're making a movie out of The Other Boleyn Girl and Jim Sturgess will be in that. Yay. :D

Recommend this movie to other people?: In a heartbeat. Everyone go see it. NOW.
Buy the DVD: First day it's released.
Grade: A

Previews:
August Rush - OMG YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY.
Elizabeth: The Golden Age - -dies- What's funny is, Gail and I are watching the preview and flailing over all the actors (and the whole theme of the movie for me) when I say that to complete this, they have to have Tom Hollander. And what do you know? The next moment we see Mr. Hollander. :3 I really want to this guy in a leading role for a movie. Can anyone suggest one? Or hopefully he'll be in one with due time.

And all the others I don't care about. Haha.
