The picture next to "stoopid" in the dictionary...

Let me introduce you to Culture Secretary Andy Burnham. He's a wonderful proof for the old concept of "the opposite of good is well-meant". I think we can all agree that a butcher shouldn't try to fix your car and the baker would very likely suck at driving a bus, so why somebody's suggesting laws for the internet who very obviously has never used it is beyond me. This is so incredibly stupid, I can't even manage the energy to get upset about it.

Internet sites could be given 'cinema-style age ratings', Culture Secretary says
Some gems for the tl;dr people:

"(...) In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Andy Burnham says he believes that new standards of decency need to be applied to the web. He is planning to negotiate with Barack Obama’s incoming American administration to draw up new international rules for English language websites.(...)"

Screwed if you're Canadian, eh? And I can already see the Russian providers quiver in their boots if they get an angry letter from Mr. Burnham.

"(...) If you look back at the people who created the internet they talked very deliberately about creating a space that Governments couldn’t reach. I think we are having to revisit that stuff seriously now. It’s true across the board in terms of content, harmful content, and copyright. Libel is [also] an emerging issue. (...)"

Which, quite clearly, indicates that the internet was created by terrorists.

"(...) Leaving your child for two hours completely unregulated on the internet is not something you can do. (...)"

Yes! You are right! That's why there's such a thing called "parenting", you git (it's not libel, btw. - prove first that you're not a git, which, judging by your statements, will be almost impossible a task). You can't let your kid sit two hours unregulated in front of the computer. Here's a cheap solution: put the computer in the living room and keep an eye of your kid. It's called "taking responsibility" or "being a parent".

Well, Andy - if you should have any problems getting your fantastic plan to work, you might wish to contact the Chinese government. They are doing a really good job when it comes to internet regulation, I've heard...

wtf, politics, internet
