I'm back AND Happy 50th Birthday, Blue Peter!

Oct 16, 2008 19:58

I'm armed with a mug of onion soup (à la mode française, mmmm...) and tea (not in the same mug, though), and ready to finally catch up with this LJ!

I'm very glad that I'm back on my feet again, and I have every intention to keep that status. It wasn't only the migraine(s), but also the very odd, very very VERY odd food tastes I developed while I was sick. For about a week, I lived on nothing but oxtail soup with cheese, garlic pickles and lemon siroup (that's the Ribena-like stuff we use here). I can't claim pregnancy as an excuse, so I suppose this was a very weird side effect of the migraine. Well. You have to try anything once. I really don't think oxtail soup with garlic pickles should be counted under "everything"...

And now for something completely different - "Blue Peter", the BBC's beloved children-programme, turns 50 today. I always called it "MacGyver for kids" ("... and now lets build a singing, dancing ship out of this empty bottle of washing liquid..."), and it's pretty neat. However, no empty bottles for you, I have something BETTER! John Noakes. He presented "Blue Peter" for years, and he's known for his... well - stunts. Let's call them that. Things you'd never dream of doing. (Back in those days, "Blue Peter" was probably "Jackass for kids"...)

Anyway, here's a tribute video capturing, among others, two of my favourite highlights. John Noakes trying to touch the "button" on top of HMS Ganges' main mast... John Noakes climbing Nelson's column... if that's not enough to qualify for this journal, then I don't know what is.

WARNING! If you're afraid of heights, this might not be the best video to watch. Trust me on that. *covers eyes*

Oh, and I had a LJ-makeover. And a new icon. It's almost like spring-cleaning...!
