Big YES, I have done assault mission level 1-3 dozens of times right before Salvage because without them, My ______ (insert, Mnk, brd or Rdm ) could not go.
Salvage Knowledge
Honestly, people won't research unless you MAKE them. I'd almost ask those questions and those people get a piece of Alex for correct responses.
Jobs
I have tried and failed to work with people and their only having 1 75 job. It doesn't work. If you don't have Mnk, Rdm, Bard, Whm, Thf as a decently merited job, go level it. 2nd tier jobs are Sam, War, Cor, Sch and so on down to Pet jobs which just need too many cells in some areas to make work.
Lotting
I use a 2 tier system, pick a piece, pick a set, with a 2/3 overide in place.
I being Mnk have chosen Usu feet and Usu Set, another member has Morrigan Robe and Ares Set.
When a piece drops it goes to people on that piece, then people on that set, how ever if someone is 2/3 and that is the final piece then only they lot it.
I plan runs around attendance and those Piece lots, then add secondary NM's as time allows. No keeping up with points, only does person X have Y pieces?
Alex - single Alex free falls, bags are opened at the end and split with /random at end of run. No selling no dealing with gil. If you went on the run then you have equal rights to alex from that run. I just had a secondary Salvage LS break because of a method similar to what you are preposing.
