It's a game of mousetrap

Jan 07, 2011 09:03

so unbeknown to me, my office has had a few mouse sightings in the past month. Maybe it's the new cubes, maybe it's just the reconstruction of other parts of our office building opening up gaps in the wall somewhere, who knows. but yes it all became personally relevant to me, when I went to open my snack/spare pen/electrical tape drawer and found ( Read more... )

*SNORK* Goodness. I hope they don't invade any computers or cables. Otherwise... yeah, grilled mouse.

hmmm that's true, we don't tend to fear wiring, because we have extra rugged commercial US wiring, but that's a good point about the grilling problem. if the little blighter catches fire, that'd be far less amusing.

It's kind of amazing what small rodent teeth can accomplish. My guineas managed to chew through one of the thick solid plastic cables used for the Dolby Surround stereo back in the day (thankfully they weren't plugged in). Plus, mouse... well, excrement. XD I hope you can get rid of them in some way.

Oh wow x3 I had a mouse in my room a while back, and I was super paranoid because I'd just gotten a 5.1 speaker set and if he'd chewed the cables I would have gone absolutely MENTAL.

Although I haven't seen him lately, he was a bold little bastard. He'd scurry right across my desk sometimes Once he even tried to grab ahold of the box cutter I keep there (possibly because I've used it to slice cheese in the past) and I had to yank it out of his teeth.

Hope you guys get this cleared up. I hear Nutella works the best as mouse bait.

I'd bring my cat in, because I know she's a decent mouser, but sadly we've got allergy people here and they'd be more afraid of her than the mouse. But yes, while there's a small chance of someone losing a headphone cable or something, most wires are a bit big for mousy, especially considering the amount of Other stuff they'd probably prefer to eat (like a whole filing cabinet full of doritos.

we're engineers. We horde food. it's what we do. but now we are all pondering tuperwear :-D.

Hee! Just remember, if you use glue traps, you will have the horribly depressing task of actually killing the struggling, pathetic-looking mouse yourself. (I was recommended to use the telephone book method.) Much better to use snap traps and have it be quick and painless.

I always used peanut butter and the occasional potato chip to bait mine...

these are snap traps.
I'm still waiting for the inevitable yelp of pain, as one of the guys get's pinched for fiddling with it too much.

So, uh, none of the engineers in your office have attempted to build a better mouse trap?

(I'm sorry, it had to be said.)

that'll be nextweek's hijinks.

at the moment they're all patting themselves on the back over how cheap mousetraps are. apparently the fact that you can get 4 for a dollar around here is a big deal.

We found evidence of mice in our office recently. Several stories up. That must be like climbing Mouse Everest.

seriously!

I'm shocked there are actually evidence of mice in texas. I swore it was all lizards and scary scary beetle/roaches... that Maki would then smash to bits and track around the house.

bad maki.

funny that for such a cowardly cat around people/things bigger than her, she's so much better than aramis at killing littler things.
