So. A year ago today we carted everything we own up three flights of stairs and moved into our very cozy one-bedroom apartment here in metro Denver. Life at 5,280 feet has been good to us so far. It has involved lots of beer, thick jackets, new friends, allergies, thunderstorms, snowstorms, writing (I think my all-time page count at work is now 800+), biking, hiking, asthma, mountain sunrises, baseball games, hockey games, and overspending on cocktails in Larimer Square. Huzzah!
Luke and I attended our first NFL game a couple of weeks back: Broncos vs. Jets!
My boss gave me two free tickets as a "thank you" for rocking it at work, so we hopped on the BroncoBus (haha) and braved the INSANE crowds at Mile High Stadium to witness Tebow Fever firsthand. My dad and brother were so excited I was there; they texted me nonstop during the game to share commentary.
It was very amusing and also? NUTS. I can easily say that this was the craziest sporting event I've ever been to. The way the crowd reacted every time the smallest thing happened was amazing. I was nearly knocked over on several occasions, but only because everyone was trying to stand up to better see THAT PICK SIX or a touchdown run. I'll say this about Broncos fans: nobody's a stranger when we win. Hugs and high fives are offered to you by random people all the way out of the stadium. It is slightly disconcerting, but also kind of fun.
Tebow makes people crazy. I found it fascinating, because as so many people have pointed out, he's not the most talented player. He's just (arguably) the most driven. He will work his ass off to win, no matter how much he's sucked earlier in the game. And his team seems to love him for it. The fans certainly do. They were chanting his name all the way into the parking lot.
Anyway, it was a great evening.
Another great evening:
we saw VNV Nation in Denver on Saturday night. This was the fourth time I've seen them live, but the setlist was SO STELLAR this time around that I think it edges out past shows as the best. THEY PLAYED "FURTHER". And "HONOUR 2003". *FLAIL* It was just a great cross-section of past albums - something for everyone. And my four favorite tracks from the new album (Automatic) all got airtime, so I walked out of there pretty content with life. Also with a new t-shirt! YAY VNV you are in my heart forever. \m/
At the moment, I am listening to some Johnny Cash Christmas music and trying to marathon my way through ten more blogs for work. Brain injury is the topic o' the day today. Much better than breast augmentation. Oh, my job. I have learned so many pointless things from it.
Our Thanksgiving was most excellent - we joined up with our significant couple and made the most epic meal I have ever seen laid out for a mere four people. We also enjoyed the World's Largest Jello Shot, although it ended up looking more like an Amoeba Shot in the end. DELICIOUS. I missed family, but I'll be seeing them in less than a month because Christmas is approaching at LIGHTNING SPEED. SLOW DOWN 2011, why're you in such a hurry to die? ;P
Anyway, it'll be my first time back in California in over a year. Now that we're all settled in our jobs and life out here, I hope to do a lot more hopping on planes and visiting people next year. (Thank you, Flex Friday, for making that so much easier on me.)
