I love my band.

So with just a couple months left to go before The Resistance hits, a new round of Muse Madness has begun. And in true form, frontman Matt Bellamy sees this as an opportunity to enact one of his favorite things - a global treasure hunt - on a... rather intimidating scale. He's played these games with us before, and they've always been a fun way of interacting with the band and bonding (aww) with the fandom at large, but I think this one has gone beyond even our dear Matt's expectations.

For anyone interested in what a global treasure hunt looks like with 33,000+ Muse fans involved, this Wiki page gives a nice overview of the current status of the project, detailing all the ridiculously elaborate clues and coordinates Mr. Bellamy and friends have cooked up this time around. Clearly, these men know how to use the time and resources alotted them by worldwide fame. All you other celebs and rockstars: take note. ;P

Twitter, of course, is being employed for organization. So if you've seen #USOE pop in and out of your trending topics lately - that's us! Currently, #granajedrez (another hunt term) is sitting at 8th position. #Muse was at 9th position the other day, but Twitter keeps removing it on account of spam-happy fans. Yeah, like nobody abuses the Michael Jackson trend.

The prize for the fan(s) who successfully obtain the USB drive key at each of the 6 locations is a trip to a Muse gig of their choice, organized by the band.

The prize for the fans worldwide when their fellow fanatics complete a stage is the slow and torturous unveiling of the new track "United States of Eurasia" (must register to hear). Unless you're obsessive like me and these other 33K fans, you probably won't care to hear the minute or so of the song that's been posted so far - but I'll link to the whole thing once it's complete, which at this rate, should be Monday the 20th.

This isn't even the new single, either. That would be "Uprising", and the first radio airing of that is scheduled for August 8th.

For the record: yes. That 1:14 of new music from my favoritest of favorite bands did kick my trash, thanks, and if I were in Moscow right now I'd probably be chasing after random coordinates myself to hear the next minute or so.

This is what Muse does to certain people. And I am one of them. :)
