So this weekend,
krisology and her husband Nate are coming out from Utah to visit me Disneyland, and I have been getting really giddy about this fact because (a) hello,
krisology rocks my world, and (b) she hasn't been to Disneyland since she was ikkle; SO MUCH HAS CHANGED. And I loooove sharing this place with people who don't live here. I live vicariously through their thrill (not that the park has lost its capacity to affect me - even when I'm holding an annual pass, I get excited and nostalgic every time I walk down Main Street). It's just a different experience depending on who you're accompanying, and I can't think of anyone better to go with.
So, one of my favorite things to do when I have a planned trip to Disney coming up (as opposed to the spontaneous "hey! wanna go right now?!" that came up in my passholding days, MAY THEY RETURN SOON) is visit
Yesterland.com, which is a wonderful site chock full of Disneyland history - dead and discontinued rides/shows/parades/shops are documented through rare images, news clippings, scans, trivia, etc. It's a fascinating place to visit if you're remotely interested in this sort of thing - you'll probably end up spending a lot more time there than you expect. I'm pretty entranced by it, because I was too young to experience most of this stuff. (When I was little I wanted to be an Imagineer. Then I realized that being one meant you had to do more than, uh, sit around and brainstorm brilliant creative ideas. Like, there's actual engineering involved. Bummer. ;P)
Anyway. This has all gotten me into a fit because it makes me want to listen to Joy Electric's Starcadia EP, which has awesome songs like "The Carousel of Progress" (capturing the early-animatronic creep factor with astounding accuracy) and "The Matterhorn" because ha ha Ronnie Martin is obsessed. Alas, it is out of print and every trustworthy mp3 site I come across is lacking. MOURN.
I now resume watching the husband play Resident Evil 5 (cheestastic), waiting for LOST to finish downloading, and bouncing in my chair about DISNEYLAND. :D :D Because yes, I am still 10, tyvm.**
