I've been trying really hard not to dread my weekdays. I don't want the weekend to look like life-support to me, adrift way out here on a Tuesday. I want to say: hey, work, I refuse to be tetchy! Let me make you awesome!
Er, yeah. It's a noble effort, at least.
I'm reading some fabulous YA dystopian sci-fi right now that comes recommended: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It took me 2 months of hold time to get this book from the library, and I see now why it's so popular. It's an intense read. Reminds me a lot of Ender's Game crossed with Lord of the Flies. Not even the comma splices galore (augh!) and occasionally misplaced fragments can stop the momentum of this narrative; it's fairly breathless once it gets going. I'm enthralled enough to have looked up when the sequel's coming out, and stumbled across the news that the film rights have been optioned. Uh, what? I can't imagine a marginally faithful film being made of this book that wouldn't have parents screaming protests. Teenagers forced to slaughter other teenagers in an annual, nationally broadcast "sporting" event? Good luck to whoever's marketing that one.
