Mmm, pine.

I came through the door today to discover my husband fiddling around with our very first Christmas tree! (One of those OMG I'M MARRIED moments.) To make up for the fact that it's fake, he bought the two delicious smelling candles (pine and malted cider) that now don the coffee table. It almost compensates. Almost. I grew up with a real tree... he grew up with a fake. For the purposes of managing our tiny apartment with minimal hassle, I conceded to his childhood. ;P It's quite lovely, really, and just the right size for what room we have.

I love Christmas.

I am now watching him attempt to catch up with me in BioShock. I'll tell you something: video games may not yet be considered an art form, but BioShock certainly makes you believe they should be. There is no level on which it is not utterly brilliant: concept, writing, narrative structure, design, voicework, score. As a bonus, Ayn Rand's Objectivism always did creep me the hell out, thus Rapture (the underwater city you play through) is lended an extra sense of menace. Every time Andrew Ryan starts intercepting friendly Atlas on the intercom, my nerves fry so bad I want to go shove myself in one of the wall-holes the Little Sisters use. SNAP. Gore Verbinksi is apparently heading the film version, who does very well with detailed sound and visual design, IMHO. Two things any film adaptation of this game would have to emphasize. My eternal optimism is inclined to think this has a chance of breaking the "great game, crappy movie" curse.

christmas, gaming, luke, bioshock
