If the idea of being in space has ever made you slightly uneasy - this movie will freakin' fry your nerves. I think I'm scarred for life. Pan's Labyrinth was the last film to make me curl up in my theater seat like this, but its effect wasn't as enduring. Hours later, and I'm only a bit less on edge

But what was I really going to complain about? Cillian Murphy and Chris Evans were both really good and I would pay to sit and watch them any day of the week.
Also: Your Bourne posts haunt me! I have to wait to see it with a friend and I'm DYING to see it now that everyone says it's so good. Sheesh. I'll never make it at this rate.

Yep - I'm no scientist, but even I had to consciously make a decision that the implausibility of several details wasn't going to detract from my enjoyment of the film's other (numerous) merits. I think what it nailed was not only human reactions to incredibly high stakes, but the feeling of space - what it would be like, so far from home and so close to the unquantifiable. The mood was so thick.
The third act (which is controversial all-around, from what I understand) had some elements I could've done without, too - had to come up with some serious wankage about the burnt!dude in order to accept his purpose - but the overall thrust of the film easily made up for it.
