There just seems to be no end to The Stupid, and the aggravation that it causes. I've been trying to get the data entered into the accounting software in preparation for the accountant's visit tomorrow. I should point out that this is our new accountant, who will hopefully (ie: damn well better!!) do a better job than the last company we were with. Said company has made a total mess of my accounts for the bowling alley, which I am only discovering now as I try to catch up on the data entry. Case in point forte moment: an "uncategorized tax amount" for $320 on a tax payment that I made in 2012. Problem is that while my payment in 2012 was error-free, the accountant entered a journal entry for December 31 2010 that charges this $320 against the tax account, but without saying what it's for; ergo, it's uncategorized.
The other half of the problem is that I'm in the middle of reconciling the chequing account, and this tax payment has to be entered; but it can't be entered until this uncategorized entry is fixed, and I can't do that until I figure out where she pulled that number from and how to nullify it without messing up everything else.
On top of all this crap, they had the gall to send me a bill, several months after the fact, saying that I owed them another $580 for "consulting" for those entries that they screwed up! I had already paid their fees last Summer, and now they want more? Is it any wonder that we're switching accountants?!
Trixstir was working the late shift at the hospital, so she had sent The Piglet* home with the girls; this meant that I had to pick her up after work. I couldn't very well leave her waiting there for hours as I struggled with these accounting screw-ups, so I basically took a large dose of Fukitol, and shut everything down for the night. Maybe I'll be able to approach the problem more calmly in the morning. Frankly though, I doubt it; Between the shipment that's due to arrive tomorrow, the (new) accountant coming tomorrow afternoon, and an unpleasant weather forecast, tomorrow is not looking like it's going to be a good day.
* Last week, Trixstir dubbed The Kidling "Piglet" after he made a double-batch of KD, and scarfed the whole batch down by himself in one sitting. (This isn't the first time he's done so either.) So, until he earns a more suitable moniker, "Piglet" (or The Piglet) it is.
