Halloween is supposed to be a fun time for kids (big and small) but this year it just sucks. Last night would have been an awesome night for it - a nearly full moon, warm temperatures, barely a breeze. At least, that's what it was like in the early evening when the kiddies would have been out trick-or-treating. Later at night it started to get cold, and then we got a freezing rain. It's been like that ever since, and tonight is one of the most miserable nights for trick-or-treating that I've seen in years. There's not much wind (unlike previous years) but the cold, and the freezing drizzle just ruin everything. The roads and sidewalks are just sheets of ice, and it's not a good night for anyone to be out.
Normally, we decorate the bowling-alley for Halloween; We have tombstones, flying bats, fog-machines, noise-makers, strobe lights, all kinds of fun things. Not this year though; Between Trixstir being too run down taking care of two young-uns, and myself being too run down from trying to run two businesses and a farm, we're just too busy (and tired) to bother. Add the lousy weather tonight, and it's just not worth it. I seriously doubt that I'm going to get anyone in here tonight.
As for the LJ-Archive.... With all kinds of nasty rumours floating about, and the new "fixes" that the Russians are trying to cram down everyone's throats, who knows how much longer LJ is going to be around. I've used the LJ-Archive program in the past, but it broke a year or so back and won't sync the comments anymore. Apparently, it's been abandoned by its creator, but someone out there actually paid someone else to find the bug, and fix it. Seems that it's just two lines in the code, creating cookies that aren't needed, and don't work anyway. The fix can be found at:
http://www.memory-prime.de/lja/LJa.html The problem is, every time I try to download it, I get a burst of activity, then the link goes dead, and it aborts after about 138k out of the expected 400k. Can anyone else get a solid link and download this? I'd really like to be able to backup my LJ before it all comes crashing down. :/
From the page, here's some info about the bad part of the code:
For people interested in the solution:
In the file
http://ljarchive.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ljarchive/trunk/ljArchive/Engine/Utils.cs?revision=78&view=markup,
comment out lines 69 and 70. They have changed something in authentication handshake proccess and these two cookies are not working anymore. Old-style "ljsession" cookie does the job.
