In Calgary Again

trixstir and I are back in Calgary for a few days.  We're here to get her hearing-aides serviced, and to pick up stuff that we can't get in Shaunavon; A trip to Costco and Princess Auto is always on the agenda when we come here!

I had hoped to leave Shaunavon by Noon at the latest, but as usual, that's not how it worked out.  The plan had been to come into town, cast our ballots for the municipal election, and head for Calgary.  I had to stop at the shop to pay a couple of bills online, and that's when the customers started coming in.  Even though the Open Sign was off, people could see me in the shop, and they were knocking at the door.  You don't turn away customers when they're knocking, even if you'd like to!  Of course, I had to explain that we were heading out of town for a few days, but at least I could get things into the shop and get the forms filled out.  Just as we were about to leave, the phone rang; It was someone calling to book a U-Haul truck - my first U-Haul customer!

He wanted to know if I could get him a 26' moving truck for Tuesday the 30th.  I said I'd have to make a couple of phone calls, but I'd get right back to him.  I called Roland (the area rep) and asked if that was possible; He said it was, so then I had him guide me through the online booking process again.  It didn't take long, and I had a reservation made for the customer (I don't have any trucks on the lot at the moment, let alone one that big, but with enough advanced notice they'll send one over.)  I called the customer back to let him know it was all taken care of, and that he'd be able to pick it up on Tuesday.  I get 20% comission on the rental, which will be a nice bit of change in my accounts.

Once we got all that taken care of, and cast our ballots, we still had to stop at the bowling alley for a few minutes to put up a sign, and for Trixstir to feed Elizabeth.  We took both The Munchkin and Elizabeth with us, leaving The Kidling at the farm with his grandmother to keep an eye on things.  Travelling with a 2-year-old toddler, and a month-old infant is an experience to say the least...  Even so, we made it to Calgary in just over six hours, including a nearly 1-hr break at McDonald's in Medicine Hat.  Traffic was light, and the weather was decent.  The only incident worth mentioning was some idiot just outside of Gull Lake; The speed-limit slows to 40 km/hr just outside of town, and we had slowed down as required.  This jerk (in his hyped-up pickup truck) comes roaring up behind us doing 84 (there's a speed indicator at the entrance to the town) and passes us, going over the double-solid line!  Gads, I wish there had been a cop there!   It didn't really do him any good either, since we caught up to him again at the railway crossing.  :/  I think Trixstir wrote his plate number down, should really report it.

We had originally planned to go to Montana's Cookhouse for supper, being the AYCE rib night on Wednesday night; But the stop at McDonald's in Medicine Hat took the edge off my hunger, and combined with the lateness of the hour by the time we arrived, we knew it wouldn't be worth going.  We had some quick left-overs at Mom's place, and that pretty much wrapped up the day.  We're sore and tired, and bed is much more appealing than food!  So with that in mind, good-night!  :)
