U-Haulin'

Trixstir and I went to Swift Current this afternoon for a checkup on the progress of the baby, and to see how close she is to delivering. Today was the official due-date, but as usual things seem to be running a bit behind. It's almost as if the kid is hitting the gestational snooze-button ("Just five more days Mom, please?") We have another appointment for Monday, and if the kid doesn't show by then, we'll be looking at inducing labour.

In the past, Trixstir's appointments have been in the morning, meaning that my shop is closed pretty much all day. This time however, the appointment was in the afternoon, so I was able to be open in the morning. This turned out to be particularly beneficial today; A repeat customer brought me three machines to work on, and more importantly, the District Manager for U-Haul came to the shop.

I had applied for a U-Haul dealership over a year-and-a-half ago when I first got the shop; The rep at the time had been very gung-ho about getting me set up, but then he got injured and it seems everything fell through the cracks. His replacement seemed to be some dis-interested young schmuck who couldn't care less about setting up new locations, and even said my area wasn't worth it. Obviously he had no clue about the oil-boom around here! At any rate, I let it go for almost a year, but last week I sent another application directly to head-office instead if trying to deal with the local rep again.

I had a phone-call from Phoenix in less than 48 hours, and then the new area manager showed up at the shop today. He's a more mature fellow, who actually used to have his own U-Haul store in Davidson Saskatchewan; So unlike the young punk he replaced, he's actually been through the system and knows how it works. He told me this area has been on his radar for a whole now, so my application came at a perfect time! We went over a few details, and he had a contract ready to be filled out and signed; The paperwork just needs to be filed with head-office, and we're in business! Signs and banners should be arriving in a couple weeks, as well as some rental units.

I'm excited about this business opportunity, and so glad I re-applied last week before someone else (like the rental shop down the street) got the idea!
