The weather forecasting around here just gets worse and worse. I really think they're just making it up as they go along, and don't really give a care one way or another. It would also really help if the WeatherRadio (Canada's version of the NOAA) actually worked out here. The closest transmitter is in Swift Current, and we're on the very fringe of its range. I bought a weather-radio, but it looks like I'm going to need a powerful external antenna to get a signal, and even then there's no guarantee that it will work. :/
I had to go to Swift Current after work on Monday to get some stuff that I needed, and while I was there, a great storm came rolling along. It hit Shaunavon first, with massive hail-stones the size of golf-balls. By the time it reached Swift Current, the hail had stopped but the rain was incredibly heavy and there was intense lightning. I had taken Trixstir's van to Swift Current as it's better on gas, and had left my F-150 in town. By the time I got back, it was nearly 10pm and dark, and everything looked OK. The next morning though, I was able to see how bad the damage was in the daylight, and it's bad. I'm going to have to file an insurance-claim on this; the truck took an incredible pounding in that hail-storm!
I was worried about how the horses had fared in that storm, since the forecast had called for sunny skies and we had put the girls out in the larger paddock. It has a small tent-like shelter, but that would have been useless against those hail-stones. As it turned out, the storm had completely bypassed the farm, and there wasn't even a drop of rain there, much less any hail-stones! Around 1am however, a windstorm roared up that was so powerful I was sure there was a twister in the area! Being the middle of the night however, it was pitch-black outside and there was no way to see if there was anything out there. All I could do was pray that there wasn't a twister out there, and curse the lack of a WeatherRadio transmitter in this area. Fortunately, nothing happened other than I was up half the night worrying.
