First Day of Summer

Hard to believe that it's the 21st of June already - the huge amounts of snow and the dreary grey skies seemed like they would never end, and here we are on the first day of Summer!  The skies have still been dreary and grey a great deal, but the temperature has been warm enough that at least it's been rain and not more snow.  Even so, there's been far too much rain, and flooding is widespread.  Thankfully, the worst we've had here is that the well has been contaminated by the excessive ground-water seeping in through the pitless-adapter connection - other people have lost their land and homes!  (Not in this area, thankfully, but in eastern Saskatchewan and Manitoba.)  We had about one inch of rain last week, and a little over two inches the previous week.

Today was another fairly active day at the shop - another weed-whip came in early in the day, and I tuned up three more lawn-mowers as well as finally cleaning off a Sears garden-tractor that came in back in early May.  The owners of the garden-tractor believed it was leaking oil out the bottom, but that was the one place on the thing that wasn't covered in oil and grime, so I didn't think that was the case.  There was so much grime on the machine that it was impossible to tell what the real story was until I got it cleaned up.  It's nice and clean now, and although it runs a bit rough, it certainly doesn't seem to be leaking from anywhere.  Tomorrow, I'll give it a quick tune-up so that it runs better, and then just run it for a while and see if it actually does leak at all.  I rather suspect that it was simply gunked-up after years of use and never being cleaned, and any smoking was simply oil and grime burning off the hot exhaust.

Back to the weather - today was a perfect day for the first day of Summer: warm, but not too hot, mostly sunny with just a few clouds, and no rain!  Here's hoping the rest of the summer is as nice!
