The last few days have been a whirlwind of activity...
I returned to Calgary on the 21st, spent a few days packing, and headed out again on the 25th with a fully loaded truck and trailer. I arrived in Shaunavon late at night due to a late departure (Murphey again) and had to leave everything in the truck and trailer as it was both late and very dark. Murphey struck yet again, as it rained that night, despite the fact that it wasn't supposed to. It hadn't rained all week, and it didn't rain again afterwards - it just rained the one night that it mattered. Ah well... Nothing that really mattered got wet, so we're OK.
The horses are all fine, but we're burning through hay at a faster rate than expected. Worst thing is that no one out in Shaunavon has any of the small square bales for sale, all they have are the round ones. The problem with a round bale is figuring out where to put it where it won't get rained or snowed on. The ideal place would be in the old garage, but we can't do that right now because the door is buggered. That will have to be a priority when I get back there later this week. Round bales are awfully hard to move once they've been opened, but I think we'll just have to figure out a way to do it, as we can't have the horses going hungry. Speaking of hungry...
Not much food left here, as a lot of it has been shipped out to the farm. What's left is stuff in the deep-freeze, and even that will be going out on this next trip. The house is looking quite empty, and I'd daresay lonely... It reminds me of when I first moved in here more than 13 years ago, with just a table, chair, and a bed. I don't know if we're going to be able to sell this house before winter, so we may have to look at renting it until spring, and at least get some income from it. We'll see...
I don't know which I hate more - paperwork or packing, but I've got plenty of both to do. But that can wait until tomorrow morning... :)
I've also found some of the limits of my fix-it abilities. There's a sink downstairs that's in need of a new faucet, but after fiddling with it for over an hour I've come to the conclusion that it's more than I want to mess with. I've got it all put back together so that it isn't leaking so long as it's turned off, but it leaks around the knobs when it's turned on. Fine, whatever. So long as it isn't leaking all the time, I can live with it. Let the new owners call a plumber to fix it, unless they want to bother trying it on their own.
Tomorrow is banking, shopping, and more packing. I want to have everything loaded and ready to go by Wednesday night, so that Thursday morning I can just GO, and not have to worry about unloading in the dark. A couple more of these trips, and we should pretty much have everything moved. Here's hoping anyway!
