The jokes about the new parents that look like they haven't slept in days (or weeks) aren't so funny when you discover that they're true!!! I've managed to get more sleep than
trixstir , but that's only because when Marian is really fussing, she takes her to the nursery and feeds her there. We've found that the only way she seems to sleep is if she sleeps with us, though that doesn't always work either. That may have long-term benefits, as apparently there's some study that shows that infants who are breast-fed and sleep with their parents tend to have higher IQs (assuming they don't get rolled over on and squashed!)
It seems that Trixstir and my mom finally discovered how to get Marian to sleep though; a slightly different position and she does sleep like a baby... Trixstir took advantage of the quiet-time to take a hot soaking bath, and actually dozed off in the tub! I'm not surprised; she needs some extra relaxation and sleep after the last few days (and nights!)
We went to Looney Pond for brunch yesterday, and that was enjoyable for everyone. Marian slept for the entire car-ride, and she didn't fuss at all as all the ladies present oo'ed and aw'ed over her, all taking turns holding her. Most of these ladies are grandmothers themselves, and some of them even have great-grandchildren now! They've have plenty of experience rocking babies to sleep, and this baby was no exception. :) It was a rainy day, so once we got home again I spent the afternoon and evening indoors, unpacking the various components of the entertainment centre and getting it set up. There's a reason I've been putting this off; There are so many connections that have to be made between the various componets. It can (and does!) take hours to set up, and there's absolutely no enjoyment in the process. Yes, the end results are find and dandy, it's just getting there that's the pain! Mom made her delicious Chicken Curry for supper, the recipe for which I posted in
this entry back on March 14, 2010.
I spent most of today outside; I finally got the old engines and other stuff off the back of my truck, and tidied up the shop a little more. Jack dropped off the sea-can this afternoon, though it still needs to be moved into its final place. The paddocks hadn't had a thorough cleaning in a few days (for obvious reasons) so it was quite a chore to get them done today. I think it took something like four wheel-barrow loads to get the job done! I also mowed the area around the garage/barn and around the sea-can, and finally got the fuel slip-tank on the truck tilted to one side (using the shop-crane) so that I could re-fuel the tractor. The problem was that I cut the dip-tube for the pump too short, so I have to tilt the tank to get the tube into the fuel. I also need to empty said tank so that I can remove it from the truck-bed.
Tomorrow, I need to write the bill for Westland Concrete, fix at least one lawn-mower, and pick up some packages at Jack's shop. There are hundreds of other things that also need to be done of course, but those are the top ones. Hopefully Marian will sleep more soundly tonight, as we all need some extra sleep! :)
