Good Intentions that Bite the Dust .....

So I lugged back a couple of files home to look at after dinner, but they are still snug in my yet unopened bag whilst I surf..... so not in the mood to work right now ..... there will hell to pay tomorrow, but for tonight, I just want some 'me' time away from work and clients ....

I was listening to Bach's Magnificat just now, which brought back fond memories of a fantastic concert held at St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne featuring the Collegium Vocale Ghent. It was part of the Melbourne Festival 2000 (for that year it was more like a Bach tribute with the Melbourne Festival attached, given the complete overload of Bach works that were featured). Interestingly, the concert began at 10 pm which gave it a very atmospheric late night feel (went for a leisurely dinner at my then-favourite restaurant Est Est Est beforehand, which has sadly closed down since). The first half of the programme featured an assortment of Bach choral music, and the Magnificat in D was slotted for the 2nd half. It was truly a magical experience, with the beautiful voices soaring up towards the ceiling and then enveloping the entire cathedral with the wonderful music. I felt as if I was cocooned in the most glorious sound. Definitely an evening to remember ......

And it's been 4 years since I was last back to Melbourne - far too long. My jaunts to Australia have been limited to Perth on work for the last couple of years. Looking forward to the Adelaide conference in November, which will afford me the opportunity to take a busman's holiday in Melbourne and Sydney afterwards .......
