Hmmm..... can't sleep yet again. Might pop down to the GNC store to grab some Noni juice tomorrow.
badnomad says it works, so am going to try it out .... now that the BS is gone, I'm continuing with the Absolut Vanilia, of which there is about 1/3 of a bottle left ....
Not moody, or depressed, actually. Just can't sleep. For once, I feel that I am pretty centred, and have been surfing LJ mostly to keep myself entertained. No work tomorrow, as the office is closed for the CNY break (compulsory leave), so I don't feel as stressed as I would be if it were a working day cos I can sleep in, something I always look forward to ....
So the official CNY festive activities are more or less over. Today was a good day. Visited 2 remaining great-aunts (one on my dad's side, the other on my mum's). Met a distant cousin at my dad's great-aunt's place who lives in the US and does film and entertainment. Seriously attractive girl with a great personality. If she wasn't related to me and if I wasn't gay, she would definitely be "my type". We had a great conversation, exchanged contacts, and I told her that I would get in touch with her when I was in LA on the way to San Diego for a conference in May ....
Thereafter decamped to my other great-aunt's place. It was like HQ central for all relatives on my mum's side. My great-aunt and uncle live in a very nice colonial bungalow with a huge garden, which both my nieces (aged 2 and 1) enjoyed tremendously. The decor of the house is stuck in the 60s, which was pretty comforting to me, cos it is virtually unchanged since I was a kid when I visited there often with my parents. Met many assorted aunts, uncles and cousins whom I hardly know there, and it was good fun. My great-uncle was looking good for someone who had to go for kidney dialysis 3 times a week. The most interesting bit of the visit was my great-uncle telling us about his stories of his youth, how he was visiting Berlin in 1939 with his dad, and heard Hitler speak at a Nazi Party rally. He said that Hitler was a very good orator, and altho' he was speaking in German, my great-uncle found him riveting and was drawn to the magnetism of his personality, as were the tens of thousands of people who were caught in the thrall of what he was saying. He also recounted the time when he was conscripted into the Australian forces during WW2 in Melbourne - he was at university there during the Japanese occupation - to protect Australia from the Japanese. It was all very interesting stuff I must say .....
Lunch was at Golden Peony Restaurant at the Conrad. Food was superb with this chap playing the pipa in the background. Having not been there for a while, I was glad to see this cute waiter who has always treated me very well during the times that I was there, and slutty me gave him an ang pow after lunch, cos he made sure that my table was well looked after ...... still speculating whether or not he bats for our side, of course ......
My 3rd uncle on my mother's side hosted dinner at this zi char place at Blk 105 Clementi called Chin Huat, which was excellent - I had one of the best lobster dishes there, and the snow crab was excellent, humongous and meaty - the first time I have used scissors to cut through the crab legs to get the meat out. The other dishes were good too - spare ribs, fried kai lan, deer meat, and hor fun. My aunt says that their boiled fresh prawns go for $18 a kilo (but not during CNY), which is dirt cheap if you compare it to restaurant prices, so will be back after CNY ..... hehe.... Also, it was the first time I have actually been in a private room in a zi char place, which was what used to be their karaoke room - but seems that they converted it into a private room with 2 tables ...
All in all, a decent break. Looking forward to a restful weekend (in between some work that I have to do) ......
