So since at least a good portion of the country is ungulfed in too-early-in-summer heat, what DO you do with your horses in the summer? Somehow, spending even a solid half hour in *real* work is ... exhausting. We're pushing 105+ here, which while not as hot as I've ridden in before, at this elevation (5000 feet), the sun HURTS your skin and sears you to a crisp.
(aside, teaching your hyper 5 yr old that flying lead changes do NOT mean 'bolt-at-the-canter' works really well in 108 F weather, FYI. you might pass out from heat exhaustion afterwards, but that was in college when I had way more energy than I do now :P)
If I had anywhere WET to ride (lake, streams, etc), I'd be there. But how are the rest of you coping, humidity or not? Denali's at a post-early-summer-show season break but as much as I want to take her out on the trails, knowing it's 90F by 8am just has me totally 100% unmotivated.
How are you, and your horses, coping?
