i have debated for about three days about posting this here..but i figured it would be welcome in a community of horse lovers...so if it's alright to pour out some of my emotions..here it goes.
I'm so sorry for your loss. And so glad you have found solace in horses and riding. I hope you are always surrounded by the people and animals who lift you up :)
I second that. However life shakes out, I hope you can find your connection to people and animals who can carry you (literally and figuratively) through the hard times.
I teared up reading this post. You and Caleb are positively adorable. I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. I have two brothers, and if I lost either of them I would fall apart - they mean the world to me. The quiet nature of horses has always been comforting to me, and although I have never gone through anything as grievous or heartbreaking as losing a loved one, any time things have gotten hard, I have always been able to find peace through spending time with my horse. There's just something about looking into those kind, soft brown eyes with long lashes, just blinking and looking back at you, and REALLY SEEING you for who you are, what you're experiencing and going through, that empties you of pain, frustration, anger, bitterness, hurt, etc. Something about the way the warm, sweet breath of a horse blowing on your cheek comforts and soothes all hurts, even if you've been sobbing and can't catch your breath. Inquisitive, wiggling, nibbling lips that make you laugh even as you have tears on your cheeks and snot on

A friend of mine picked up a car sticker in Canada (we're in Australia) that says, "horses are my therapy".
So true. I've had and been around horses fairly consistently since i was just a toddler aNd they haVe been a great constant for me. Competing and showing is great, but the warmth and routine and friendship is what I love. Also working with challenging horses, can be very confronting and difficult but the learning curve and opportunity to reflect is amazing.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. Hopefully, it will give others who are feeling down and out some courage to face daily life again.
I've always been a believer that animals help us so much, even if that isn't their purpose in life. It's just their nature to be in tune with emotions and caring.
