The Fear is Gone.

Anyone that has had an anxiety with riding, when did you get over it? I didn't think I would ever fully, completely get over it. I got more confident, more comfortable, less scared, but for years there was always this little nagging feeling somewhere that I just could not kick.

Aw, that sounds like a great experience! :)

Mine went when I started riding much more frequently - like four or five times a week. I sometimes get butterflies before riding now, but I think that's more habit than anything!

For me too, the biggest part has been about having confidence that I can communicate effectively with my horse, so that I don't feel out of control when things get a bit hairy (I know that he will listen to me if I tell him it's ok, and I know I can stop him if he goes to run) - also building up time in the saddle, so that I learnt by experience that even if things go a bit pearshaped, we will still be ok - and also a big part of it is having a horse that I really trust (also an Icelandic - they are the best! :)), but that trust came from the first two bits. He was always a very safe, sensible boy, but I didn't feel confident trusting him until we'd built that relationship!

I never thought that I would feel confident enough to jump, but that is me and Marco doing our first (very very small) cross pole together! :)
