Kid's Stirrups?

Sep 08, 2011 14:14

So, one of my neighbors has a little girl, I think she's like 6. She loves my little gelding, and he even likes her! He can be incredibly stubborn but the other day she hopped up on him and rode him around in just a halter and lead.
They have a pony of their own, but she's over twice the size of my mini and the little girl just doesn't feel as comfortable on her as she does my gelding. They are the perfect size for each other too. She's light enough that carrying her around won't be a problem for him at all. (I checked with the vet yesterday when he had his teeth done!)

Anyways, to the point. Cracker Day is coming up next month (You Florida people know what I'm talking about!) We go every year, but we've never brought Mr. B before (my gelding).  My neighbor is going to pay to have his coggins pulled so he can go.

The only issue we have is his saddle. It's odd. It fits him, and it fits her, but the stirrups are just way too long. It's a 12" seat, but the shortest notch on the stirrups, well, I would probably feel comfortable in them. I can't put another notch in them, there just isn't room.

I'm thinking of borrowing these---> http://www.smithbrothers.com/product.asp?pn=X3-07543 from a lady I ride with. Can anyone tell me about any experiances you've had with these? Are there any downsides? I know she want's to do the barrels with him, are they suitable for such a thing?

And so it's not just text.
