So. My boy pulled a shoe. The other is on firmly. Unfortunately, there are two major problems - the first of which is that my farrier is out on an overnight trail ride until Friday evening. The second is that I have scoured the fields and cannot for the life or me (or my mother) find the shoe, and my farrier does not make shoes. She is a barefoot trimmer who understands that sometimes horses need shoes. I had a pair we pulled at the beginning of the summer, so she set those for me, but she can't make a new one.
Does anyone have any tricks for pulling the shoe without a hoof nipper/pull-off? I have a rasp, and can jerry rig something to work as clinch cutters. I'm just at a loss as to how to physically pull the shoe from the sole.
And yes, I realize that if I can't make something work without too much difficulty or risk of harm, I will get the farrier out on Saturday.
ETA: My guy has been barefoot a lot before, so I have Boa boots for him. I'm not concerned about him chipping the walls or bruising the soles. He was recently trimmed, and I want to pull the remaining shoe so I can ride
(booted) until his next cycle.
ETA2: I was able to get the shoe off this morning with little effort and no damage to his hoof. Thanks to those who gave advice.
