Update to this post, in which we seem to have an Attack Yearling: http://equestrian.livejournal.com/6233623.html?view=76178455#t76178455

The vet came out this morning (she loves us- I don't know why, because we always have some sort of crazy crap going on) and feels that it's not neuro (awaiting blood tests to confirm), but a very poorly socialised horse. The vet feels she was probably a bottle baby and abruptly weaned (demonstrated by the fact that she's had four homes in one year of life), and probably has some "issues" due to that.

I'm not sure what to think. On one hand, if there's nothing physically or mentally wrong with her, and it's strictly behavioral, then she has a chance.

On the other hand, she will need expert-level handling for the rest of her life, and possibly years of herd life and supplements to help her understand how to be a horse and respect humans. Since we have a LOT of kids on our property, we may not be a good place for her to be right now.

That being said, how the heck do we find someone who CAN handle her and provide what she needs to be sane, given that she's put two people in the hospital. While one of those people was an older man, the other was a guy who truly knew what he was doing.

We were all set to put her down last night, but given this update, it almost feels a little premature. Then again, we are a VERY small operation.

So, to all the nice folks who supported me in putting her down last night, does this change your mind at all?

behaviour issues, vet/medical advice, training problems
