Initial entry can be seen
hereCalvin has been home for almost a month now and he is turning out to be quite the gentleman. He has impeccable ground manners and is a big goof. We have hacked around in the ring and even gone out for a nice trail ride. He was so mellow on the trail I doubted that I bought a 5 year old OTTB! My trainer came out to work with him. He moves like a freight train, no clue on how to bend and has some serious resistance to any steering/turning while cantering. Nothing that can't be fixed but it makes for an interesting work in progress.
Anyway, 5 days ago the vet came out for spring shots and took another look at the wound on his fetlock. I bought him with an injury to his fetlock and had my vet x-ray the crap out of him in a prepurchase exam. The x-rays showed no bony changes secondary to the wound and he was sound to ride. Aside from a good amount of proud flesh the wound looked pretty good. He hasn't been sore or off from the wound except directly after I clean it. I elected to remove the proud flesh when the vet came for spring shots. There was a flap of skin with questionable healing underneath and I wasn't able to get the proud flesh down enough with topical applicants.
I forgot my camera at home the day of the removal however I thought you might be interested in some pictures of the wound and of the big red gelding.

Hay! NOM NOM NOM
So far the wound has had minimal drainage. I am alternating days of abx cream with stuff to keep proud flesh away. He is on stall rest for 10 days then I can start hand walking him. He hasn't gone stir crazy yet and is a very good boy for the dressing changes.
Edited to fix some wonky HTML!
