attack of the iceballs!

winter means snow, and snow means packed ice in hooves. i'm tired of spending 30-40 minutes every night de-icing everybody's hooves. i know vaseline can do a lot to prevent the ice buildup, but i was wondering if it would still be as effective if it had to be applied at night instead of when they get turned out in the morning. my bosses are terribly lazy with things that they don't deem necessary, which means i'll be the one applying the vaseline, and i work in the evening. i'm concerned that it would just rub off overnight in their stalls and be a total waste of effort. so i ask you, dear winterized equestrians, how long will a liberal application of vaseline stick to the hoof? is there something better and longer-lasting that i should try?

hoof care, winter
