Good luck! I lived in Lexington for a while for a really cool job opportunity as well. The layout takes some getting used to - if you don't already know, the whole "downtown" city is within a circle of highway 4 that branches out into everything leading away from the city. Depending what side of the city your new job is on, I'd look to that side of the circle. There's plenty of horse country in every direction - I found lots of barns both east and west of the city, not so many north (the KHP is there), and didn't really bother going south. Your best bet is going to be to go find the local tack stores (there used to be a good one on the east side, though damned if I can't remember the name right now).
It was a few years ago now that I was there, but I might still have some idea if you have questions about specific places. Try the Chronicle of the Horse forums, too, you'll get a wider sample of people there.
Belle, what did you do in lexington? PS. Loved the pics of your pony.
Emraldfire, I was there last summer... I have a couple names but I don't have an extensive knowledge of the area. All I know is that I LOVED it. Let me know if you have specific questions, I may be able to help.
