What sort of world are we living in when a 17 yr old can't even go ride her own horse down a fairly well used road without someone trying to pull her from her horse and do god knows what? This happened to a girl not terribly far from where I live here in Australia. I would assume the same danger is present for anyone, anywhere. Story from the national newspaper under the cut. Moral of the story: keep aware when you are out riding, take your mobile/cell and KNOW where you are, don't ride alone if you can avoid it and take note of rego plates on vehicles that are acting in an odd way. If in doubt, trot or canter away, pref up a track where a car can not follow, or up a driveway to a house where it appears people are home. Police are investigating further here regarding this incident and hopefully they will catch these bastards. When they do, I reckon riders should be the ones to mete out the justice. They showed the girl and the beautiful big bay horse on the TV when this story was aired, SUCH a love of a gelding, looked like a sweet big sook, either a TB or STB X without brands.

UPDATE 6.07pm: POLICE have called the attempted abduction of a 17-year-old Warrandyte girl last week "brazen and cowardly".
Mikaela, 17 was riding her horse along Gold Memorial Rd last Thursday afternoon about 4.25pm when two men approached her and tried to pull her from her horse.
The Year 12 student said she initially thought the would-be kidnappers were trying to get past her on the road, but then they stopped the car and got out.
“When they were out of the car they made comments and grabbed me,” Mikaela said.
“C’mon baby, you know you want it,” one of the men said to her.
Mikaela said her usually ‘lazy’ horse knew something was wrong because he jumped a fence and she was able to ride him to the relative safety of a nearby bush track.
“He never runs or canters so he obviously knew something was going on,” she said.
The terrified girl then hid and called her mum, Donna, who brought friends with her in case the men were still there.
Donna said the men had not only frightened Mikaela but had stolen her freedom.
“When I got there she was hysterical,” Donna said.
“They have stolen her freedom to ride on her own.”
Detective Senior Constable Mark Rogers from Manningham CIU said police believed the ‘opportunistic’ attack was an isolated incident, but warned young riders to go out in pairs.
“It’s quite brazen considering it was broad daylight and there are people who use this road,” Det-Sen-Constable Rogers said.
Mikaela described one of her attackers as being in his late 20s with a shaved head and a deep voice. He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt.
The pair were in a dark blue Nissan Trident four-door 4WD ute.
