Horse Book?

I'm in the process of writing an update of Black Beauty, in a similiar style- the first person, modern story of a horse. I love the original Black Beauty, and while it's story is timeless, I think that a modern update that addresses some of the issues facing modern equines would be good for younger kids to read. I'm trying to keep it on about an 8th grade reading level. Some of the topics I plan to address in the chapters include overbreeding, abuse, neglect, hoarding, racing, dressage, Western Pleasure, trail riding, trail strings, genetic disorders, carriage horses, and the auction/slaughter scene. Not all of these things will be painted in a negative light- far from it! I want to show the good and the bad through a relatable character, a Quarter horse mare named Soot.

The problem is that I want to have a good, horse-savvy audience to proofread and fact check and make suggestions. I would like to hear from this community. I don't want it too widely distributed, since in an ideal world it will be published someday, so if anyone would be willing to look over chapters as I complete them, that would be awesome. Either through email or I could make a new writing journal for it, and you could add it if you wanted to read and comment at your leisure. Either way, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
