Question on Dressage and bits (unrelated).

Hi folks!

I have two questions that are totally unrelated..

1) For the folks who ride Dressage - how did you come to decide on it? I ask because I know a few hunter/jumpers who migrated to the dressage side of things because they were "getting to old to jump and didn't want to risk coming off after a jump". All of my "riding life" I've only been around hunter/jumpers, so that's all I've ever been taught and all I've ever known. Since I've started a part time job at Dover (and know a couple of people who ride dressage) - I see the dressage saddles etc and I become curious about the discipline in all of it's aspects. For those of you that "migrated" to dressage - what were your primary reasons?

2) Was having a conversation with a customer about egg-butt snaffle bits. I asked her what she uses an egg-butt for, and she said that it was thicker and aided in steering without going to a full cheek. That also got me thinking - what is the practical difference between using an egg-butt snaffle versus a D ring/loose ring snaffle? When I first got William they used an egg-butt on him. I use a D ring snaffle on him now, since I didn't see any good reason to keep the egg-butt (he's fine in the D ring).

Hope everyone is doing well and thanks in advance for your opinions!
