This is my first post in Equestrian, though I've commented a few times and been reading since the end of summer. =)
I have a question about mane rubbing and subsequent hair re-growth. My gelding grazes under/through the fence in his paddock (it's a "grass is always greener" type thing), so it doesn't "itch", per se, but he has rubbed out a good 4-5 inch chunk. Very attractive.
My question is three-fold - for those of you that have experience with this type of thing -
a) if I get him to stop now (i have a few ideas in mind), about how long do you think it'll take to get an inch or two back?
b) have any of you ever noticed hair follicle damage and the hair not growing back? This is my greatest concern, because he is a quasi-show animal.. or will be when school isn't my life.
c)Do any of you have any products that you just swear by (or mix yourself!) to encourage hair re-growth? Recipes welcome!
Thank you in advance,
. =)
This is the culprit. Taken earlier this summer when he had a nice mane. His name is Oscar, he's a 3yr old POA gelding. He's coming along slowly but nicely (my fault, vet school kinda takes your life away).. I own his dam, so that's how I came to own him. My goal is to get him going and sell him to a family that will use the heck out of him; he'll make a pretty nice show pony I think.. but I may be biased. ;)
