I am finding it quite amusing that no Bush supporter I have spoken to has been able to tell me ONE good thing he has done while in office (other than the Hussein capture). People come up with some pretty interesting answers though. Here's one I have recieved a lot ( Read more... )

Ed, you don't get it. We have had a tremendous deficit for decades now. And whenever the economy dipps you HAVE to look at the previous leadership. The economy was good in the 90s but that was because of Papa Bush's leadership and planning. Clinton only cared about face appearences and thus got this country involved with people we should have nothing to do with (hence drug lords and drug trafficking increased dramatically). And Companies will leave this country if they don't get tax breaks. THEY DO ALL THE TIME. the problem is that they don't spend the money to relocate employees so they save millions by taking advantage of overpopulated countries (i.e. India) with a work force that will work for peanuts and a government that is sooo lax on environmental policies that the company can get away with everything as long as keep their citizens employeed. It is far cheaper to import the products because of the lack of tarriffs, but increased tarriffs aren't the answer because in a global economy one nation can't go at it alone. You were right about one thing. By giving tax breaks to the wealthy companies the money does trickle down and get put back into the economy is other fashions such as technology. Bush recognizes this and has made efforts to distinguish some of the places the money should not go, such as stem research. I understand those who rely on it are pissed, but the fact remains that stem research and cloning is unnatural. As a man of faith you should not have any argument with that. Not to mention, our world is far too populated now and if we continously extend life via artifical means then nature's natural way of balancing it out will fail and we will be screwed.
And yes, the deficit has increased but our money goes to helping those less fortuante. Our economy in a low state is still the strongest in the world. Europe had to form one giant union in order to surpass our one nation. If we joined with just Japan and Germany the rest of the world combined couldn't surpass us, but we don't do that because it doesn't matter. The world is small and business is global, thus we are all intertwined.
I have to go to class, we'll talk about this more in person
