First: How the hell did that moron get four more years? I can't even think of what the next four years are going to be like. Here are some highlights of his first 4 in office:
- Passed the "No Child Left Behind" Act which is an OK idea in theory, but he failed to secure funding for this program (by that I mean that no funding was proposed by him or his administration). No funding = no bus services (parents won't mind taking 2 hours out of their day to drive a kid to school, right??), no ability to cover the extra supplies needed in "popular" districts (textbooks do get expensive), and also people would still be paying taxes that would not go to what they should go to. Nice job George!
- Proposed a ban on gay marriage. Ten states last night had a vote on banning gay marriage. In all ten states, it passed. Honestly, that makes me sick to my stomach. I don't care what anyone thinks about gay people, but no one in this country has the right to limit the rights of others just because they are different from "the norm." Just think about this: what would you do if you were in love with someone and you needed to wait and see if you could marry that person only after the wedding voted on and approved by 100 million people? Yeah, didn't think so.
- War In Iraq. Unnecessary. Need I say more?
- First president since the Great Depression to chalk up a net loss of jobs in the US (1.2 MILLION JOBS to be exact). That's wonderful...way to go George. I am so glad that people in this nation think so highly of economic issues as much as they do about fighting a war WE NEVER NEEDED TO FIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! I'll call it right now...net loss up to 1.8 mill by the time he leaves office (and I hope everyone who voted for him will be the first to experience this plague of unemployment).
- That wonderful color-coded threat level system. Anyone know what color it is now?? Blue, orange, red, magenta? Does it really matter? No. The system was installed as a simple scare factor. If people are scared, they avoid change. And why even have a low level (green, I believe). Everyone knows that it will never get down that low, especially with the way Bush makes friends around the globe. Honestly, I can see this system being phased out pretty rapidly as soon as GW is out of office.
Second: In the 2000 election, 17% of the registered 18-29 year old demographic voted. This year, only 16% of the 18-29 year old demographic voted. At first, I was discusted by this statistic. However, after thinking about it I realized there is a reasonable explanation for this. Its because most of the people in that age group who would normally vote are overseas being shot and killed in a war we should have never started and another war (the right war) that is being ignored by the administration.
Even taking that into consideration, those numbers are still disgusting.
I hope this country realizes what it has just done by re-electing our current sore thumb. Diplomatic relations and economic stability just walked out the door, replaced by War-hungry power and Ally Alienation. Bravo America...Bravo.
PS - If anyone can think of ONE good thing that Bush did while in office (other than capture Hussein), please let me know.
