So guess where I'm going for the next two weeks?

So Greg Street (aka Ghostcrawler) released a nice little blog about Damage Number Inflation. Now I've only skimmed it at this point, but this is a thought I had a while back and was wondering how this was going to be handled. With the announcement of transmogrification coming in 4.3, I had been running some really really old content (aka the first raid ever) to get some gear to use for this. I was truly shocked when I looked at it compared to what I was wearing. I picked up a pair of epic gloves from back then, and the stat difference is stupid.

Old Gear
New Gear

534 Armor
+10 Strength
+15 Stamina
+15 Intellect
+14 Spirit
+7 Fire Resistance
Equip: Increases spell power by 9.

2264 Armor
+282 Strength
+454 Stamina
Blue Socket
Socket Bonus: +10 Strength
Equip: Increases your hit rating by 178.
Equip: Increases your mastery rating by 182.

Now don't get me wrong, yes the game has grown, and as such they had to increase the item stats to make people feel better, but just look at that number increase. At the rate they are going the next expansion epic gear will have stats like those in Ghostcrawler's blog. I like big numbers are much as the next guy, but the number inflation since the beginning has just exploded and is bound to cause issues. I for one am glad that they realized this and plan on doing something about it.

Personally I think that the gear now should look like this:
1000 Armor
+100 Strength
+250 Stamina
Blue Socket
Socket Bonus: +10 Strength
Equip: Increases your hit rating by 90.
Equip: Increases your mastery rating by 95.

The gear has gotten much stronger than in the past, but at the same time it's not setting the expectation that I'm going to see +500 [Stat] gear in the next raid.

For now that is all folks. Stay safe and keep playing.
