In which nick wishes he could kill the vast majority of people on earth...

So let's say you're walking around a field of grass, but you look over at another field of grass that's closer to where you need to be so you move in that direction. A person is standing there, the owner of the field you want to go to. You ask if you can come over and they say yes, so you move closer. Because it's really important you move to the other field from the field you're already on, with every step you keep asking if it's okay to come over, and they say continue to say yes. But just as you get there, right on the edge, they say wait I can't let you on without this pass. But you say you never told that you needed a pass. There's no sign saying you need one. In all the times you've asked if you could come over the person has not mentioned you needed a pass. They tell you that it's your problem.

This fable is essentially what happened to us on our moving day.

Now we moved on a sunday because we basically couldn't afford to take time off of work to move our stuff on the actual day, so we had asked if it would be possible to move on the sunday. They said yes so we moved forward on that assumption, calling regularly to confirm it was still viable. In this time we had paid for our deposit with a certified cheque because we had been asked to. That was no problem. The week before we move we suddenly can't get a hold of the supers at the building at all. No one is picking up their phone. When they do, we get half-assed mumbled answers. The day of the move we were going to use uHaul but in their infinite wisdom they gave us pick-up location only 9km away from where we were MOVING TO. Cancelled that. We managed to get all our stuff into a friends truck and trailer and we phone to confirm (btw they have never called us even when they said they would, we always had to call them and pray they actually would pick up) and confirm that the current tenant has returned his keys. I tell the super that we're leaving now and confirm the amount that should be on the first month's cheque and she confirms that that is indeed the amount I should write on the cheque. Well when we get out there we only have an hour to unload as our friend who graciously helped us had to leave and we'd gotten caught in traffic. We walk in and hand the cheque to the assistant super, and he states that without a certified cheque or money order he couldn't give us the keys. We had talked to these people multiple times a week for a month since our application was accepted, and they NEVER mentioned this. With something this important, you'd think they'd have the decency to make sure. I tell this to the assistant, who utters the words "You personal cheque is meaningless to us." I need to get a money order ON SUNDAY when the banks are closed. Luckily there was a cash stop nearby with a lovely young woman who guided me through the procedure very quickly. We managed to get everything in our place and told the assistant to get the supers to contact us as soon as they returned that evening because we were extremely unhappy. They never called. I called the property manager for the company that owns the building, and though he got back to me promptly basically said that 100% of landlords in toronto only accept guarenteed payment. I tell him he's lying because we've never had to do it. In fact, I don't know ANYONE who's had to do it. I asked him if there was a law, or something in their policies about it. Imagine my surprise when all I get are mumbled answers. He basically said that we should have known, and that there was nothing he could do to make it up to us.

These are the people who are responsible for where I now live. Where I've brought my woman to live. I am not fucking impressed.

We do like the location and the place is pretty okay, with some work it'll be something we can be happy about. I just don't feel like fucking moving again anytime soon but I have the fear in me that I will. To be insulted and disrespected by people who control the living space of my life, where I fucking sleep, DOES NOT appeal to me.

I have serious wander lust but now I'm thinking as soon as Ambro's done her school we'll find some place we want to settle and just fucking SETTLE. Get some property that's MINE. It's brought to my attention some fundimental things that up to this point had been candy-coated. There are people who think they're nice, that they do good work, and that if issues arise that they're not at fault. I complicated matters by wanting to move in one day and before we technically had the lease, but you cannot tell me that because you assumed I should've known some information that is not law and not in my experience that you would've left me out in the parking lot overnight. It's called human decency, and these people don't fucking have it. Makes me ill.

I love amber, she and arnold got me through this.
