Another random character meme. This one is hereby declared the great Beatles-Marauders crossover meme. Really should have been the Beatles+1 vs. The Marauders+1, but I couldn’t leave out Mal, since he’s a character I’ve been exploring and anyway I’ve got a new meme rule that specifically states that people named Peter don’t get to play. (Sorry Neil-muse for not making the team.) Beatles are more or less the Beatles in HELP with similarly fictionalized Mal and Brian. Marauders are still at Hogwarts or just after graduation.
1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Voltron team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?
Evens: Brian, John, George, Ringo, Sirius
Odds: Paul, Mal, Severus, James, Remus
Leader: Brian, James
Lancer: John, Severus
Big-Guy: Sirius, Mal
Smart-Guy: George, Remus
Chick: Ringo, Paul
Hard, hard question without a specific plot to aim for. Lots of switch hitters.
2. Gender-swap 2, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?
Brian, Ringo, Sirius
It is possible to read the questions with the answers in that order. Or any order. I’m no good at gender swapping.
3. Compare the matchups of 1 & 8 and 5 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?
Paul/Ringo vs Severus/Remus
Interesting, something I’ve never shipped vs. one of my fave secondary pairings.
Paul and Ringo (they don’t hate each other), Severus /Remus
4. Your team is 3, 4 & 9. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?
Mal(physical), John(social), Remus(mental)
5. 7 becomes 1's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?
James becomes Paul’s boss. Ends in epic cat fight. News at 11.
6. 2 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 2 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 2 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?
Brian and George. Okay, nuts, two people from same cannon. Substitute James for George as nearest in list. And I’ve got to say we’re going to have to go with Dumbledore’s wacky ideas for substitute teachers for that one. DADA is the usual suspect but Divination or Muggle Studies are more plausible and less likely to end in horrible death. Oh, I’ve got one. How about managing Zonkos?
7. 3 and 5 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?
Mal and Severus. This would so take awhile. It would be a battle of wills. But presuming a young Severus, the advantage would not necessarily go to Snape. Mal is not the pushover he looks like. (And I’m presuming that this magick would not allow outright coercion such as the Imperius curse). Snape wants revenge and Mal does not. Severus would try to tempt Mal, pulling out memories with legilimancy. Pointing out in his cold faux-aristocratic manner all the times that Mal has been forgotten, overlooked and ingnored. But Mal is stubborn, he would prefer improvement in his relationships. Eventually Severus’s façade would break and he would rant like the abandoned Cockney guttersnipe that he really is inside. Then the big Scouser would set him down and explain that they both really want exactly what everyone else in the world wants: financial stability, respect and true love. And that is what they would wish for.
8. 1 and 2 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 4. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 4 survive? How?
Paul and Brian kill John? This is painful. No escaping, he’s dead meat. They know him inside and out and their competence levels are generally high. The good news is that he’d either die quickly from poison (Brian) or smothered in his sleep (Paul) depending on who got to him first. Actually, it is possible that John could deflect Paul’s attack, but then Brian would certainly get him in the aftermath.
9. Six, 7, 9 & ten must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?
George, James, Remus and Sirius. Remus is pressed into playing Father Christmas, mainly because he can’t contribute financially. Sirius drags Remus out shopping. Remus takes charge of food. George is put in charge of music, but once he realized that James can play the piano, he gets roped into that too. A somewhat embarrassing panto ensues, but everyone ends up having a good time. They all have to help with cleanup. The matron insists.
10. 3 and 8 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?
Mal and Ringo. Smooth sailing. Oh wait, there could be booze and dames. Ooops. Let’s call that sidequests.
