Okay! This stemmed from a conversation that loozy was having over at her journal with emmademarais about holiday!fics. Charlie would have just been graduating from high school at the time of his Bar Mitzvah, if I remember the age specifications correctly, and about to go on to Princeton. Also, because of his severely math-orientated mind, we know from canon that he's not at all religious. That said, I can see Margaret sticking up for him regarding the rite of passage that his older brother went through, and Alan being very uncomfortable that his youngest son wasn't going to go through with it.

Thus, this drabble was born. Heh. I hope you like it! Feedback is, as always, very much so encouraged.

Hee! A commentversation turns into fic! I ♥ it!

I've heard people say Don for sure had a Bar Mitzvah and people say for sure he didn't. I need to find out what episode people think it was said in and rewatch it/read the SRT file to see for sure. I thought he didn't, but I can see that if he did and Charlie didn't want to that this conversation could have easily happened - logical lawyer Margaret standing up for her son's right to choose while traditionalist Alan wants to make sure his sons both get the same thing so Charlie won't later feel left out. An interesting conundrum.

Nice little fic there! :-)

Sometime in s5... I'm too lazy to look it up right now...

*high- fives back*

starlettmalfoy & me are now writing Bar Mitzvah- fics with the lads as the focus... You could always chip in and write Margaret *heh, I adapted the writing :D*

The Magic episode or maybe the one after. He says 'the last time I went to temple was for my mother funeral (seteling the debate as to if Margaret was Jews) and before that I was like 13.'
Could have been for a friends bar mitvzah. there was nothing that said it was his.

It is a point of interpretation, I can see that now... I actually never thought of the friends- angle before... I guess it would depend on the pov of the individual person... :)

in the art theft ep in season 2 Don and Charlie talked about how they were raised very non religions. Charlie even comment how there mom had wanted an christmas tree at some point.

That's why I wrote Easter Eggs...

It could be, though, that later on, in his teens, Don got more conscious of his background... Of the brothers he is the one leaning more towards the spiritual side of things...

Heh, well if he didn't, I can always come back later and put AU in the warnings. XP

I'm glad you thought it worked well. It's definitely how I envision the elder Eppes' rapport with each other when it comes to disagreeing about Charlie. Not quite fighting... debating is a better word. And of course Margaret will win, lol. She's a rocking lawyer like that. Heehee.

*grins at you* I have had a similar conversation about Charlie, and came to the same concusion. I really like how you've depicted this decision, and his parents' disparate reactions, so vividly and well-characterizedly in such a small space.
