The General Election:  Our constituency remains Lib Dem.  Not really a surprise - it's basically been a two-horse race between Lib Dem and Plaid Cymru here for years.  I would have liked to have felt able to vote for Plaid, except that their policy on only employing Welsh-speakers in councils would probably lead to Himself and many of his workmates (including some who are Welsh) losing their jobs.  But what put the tin lid on it was that their candidate has a history as a county councillor who didn't take the time to listen/talk to his constituents and sometimes voted against their expressed wishes.

I'm very pleased that Caroline Lucas got in as the first Green MP, and unsurprised that Peter Robinson lost his seat in Belfast.  Generally speaking, this was probably the most interesting election since I've been able to vote.  I just wish I'd been well enough to stay up to watch more of the coverage (the amusing Channel 4 coverage, not the boring BBC1 coverage), but Lemsip and my bed were calling.

The new car is making me a bit nervous.  I've had it for just over two weeks, and it's been back to the dealer twice: firstly because the engine emissions light came on, and secondly because the engine emissions light came back on and for the replacement of engine mounts (which they discovered were worn when they were investigating the emissions light the first time), plus there was water leaking through the console on the roof which has the buttons for interior/reading lights, sunroof etc.  I just hope I can get all this stuff over and done with while it's under warranty.

We has visitors!  The Sister and her new bloke have come to stay.  He is a chef (ex-chef, I suppose, since he isn't working at the moment for health reasons) so he's cooking us a big posh dinner tonight.  Including chocolate brulee for pudding.  He offered something which is marginally less calorific, but apparently desserts are his thing and just the word brulee makes me start to salivate.  And I'm really not a pudding person - I'd always rather have a starter than a pud.  I can see that my so-far-moderately-successful weight loss is going to be well and truly sabotaged by dinner tonight.  (Also, three types of potatoes!)  The Sister is acting as his sous chef, which should be worth the price of admission in itself since her culinary talents usually extend as far as toasting various bread products and layering them with cheese slices and ketchup.  The only reason she hasn't died of malnutrition is the existence of multi-vitamin tablets.
