Night Sins (1997)
This US miniseries is a nasty expose of the dark and hideous underbelly of a small, seemingly perfect American town. A female SBI (Valerie Bertenelli) arrives to aid the local cop (Harry Hamlin) in a child disappearance case that soon rips the lid off a 20 year murder spree that has been deliberately ignored. The killer wants to play games with the cops, panic and paranoia is setting in, various cops want to steal the glory and a noxious reporter is sabotaging the investigation and smearing the names of the investigating officers. This is good. The case exposes adultery, abduction, perversion, murder, madness, grave desecration, suicide and even cannibalism. And just when you thought it was all over there is a horrifying ending. Worth watching and the gutwrenching ending is perfect as it was set-up in the very first scene. Check this out.

At the end of the first season they'd killed His Divine Shadow or so they thought, actually Kai just ended up possessed by His Shadow's essence. Now the Lexx and its misfit crew travel The Light Zone looking for a new home...
MANTRID
The possessed Kai leads the ship to Mantrid once a devoted servant of His Divine Shadow, by a long series of events, Mantrid is transformed into an unstoppable human/insect/mechanical killing machine who wants to wipe out humanity. Not that good.
TERMINAL
The crew visits a hospital station to help Stanley. The nutty doctors decide to experiment on Kai. To save him, Zev sacrifices her own life and is melted down into a puddle of yellow goo. Even Kai looks upset as he scoops up Zev's remains to bring her "Home." Whatever.
LYEKKA
An alien plant ends up on Lexx. It reads Stan's mind and transforms itself into a girl from his past. Meanwhile some very stupid astronauts end up on board. The plant, now named Lyekka eats Zev's remains and recreates her as Xev who has red hair and wears lizard skin. Lyekka stays on Lexx but she has to sleep a lot. Fun.
LUVLINER
Stan, Xev and 790 visit a brothel, as they desperately need some satisfaction. It all goes horribly, horribly wrong. Enjoyably weird.
LAFFTRAK
The crew gets stranded on TV world and have to take part in TV programs. Very, very odd.
STAN'S TRIAL
Stan is arrested by a prosecutor and put on trial for helping His Shadow blow up 100 reform planets. Stan's only defence was that it was only 96 planets. Good.
LOVE GROWS
A ship full of toxic waste causes some changes on Lexx. No.
WHITE TRASH
The very annoying Norb and his family of inbred hillbilly cretins show up. Terrible.
791
Lyekka, Kai, Stan, 790 and Xev go down to a planet to find a crashed prison ship. 790 gets a body but the body has its own urges.
WAKE THE DEAD
Lexx rescues a ship full of braindead sex-obsessed teenagers. The morons fool around with Kai's cyro-pod and wake him up wrong so the now deranged Kai embarks on a psycho rampage killing everyone in sight. It all leads to a showdown where Kai chases Stan and Xev with an axe. Brilliant.
NOOK
The Lexx crew ends up a world of monks who've never seen a woman.
NORB
Norb returns but it seems Mantrid has killed him. No-one cares. Crap.
TWILIGHT
The crew land on a world populated by zombified former His Shadow hosts and get taken in by the nasty family running the planet. Xev gets turned into a zombie and Kai goes nuts, again. Luckily he comes to his senses and sucks great mouthfuls of multi-coloured pus out of Xev's neck and spits it across the room to save her. Brilliant.
PATCHES IN THE SKY
Mantrid's plans to destroy the universe are going too well. Stan goes for a dream trip only for an old cannibal nemesis to return and torment him. Good.
WOZ
The wizard of oz with love slaves. Whatever.
THE NET
Lexx gets caught in a giant web, something's bugging Stan and its all very odd.
THE WEB
The exact same episode as 'The Net', just told from a different perspective. Good.
BRIGADOOM
The musical. The crew ends up in a floating theatre and through song we learn of Kai's past, how the great Brunnen G race were destroyed and of the Time Prophet's role in Kai's fate. Xev gets to play the role of Kai's girlfriend and Stan, seeing Kai's story FINALLY grows a backbone and they head off to stop Mantrid. Best Lexx episode ever.
BRIZON
An old enemy of Mantrid's tries to takeover the Lexx and timeshare Xev's liver! Uh.
THE END OF THE UNIVERSE
Lexx v Mantrid, the final battle. Lexx wins but at a great cost, Mantrid kills Lyekka and The Light Zone is destroyed. Now the Lexx and its crew are back in The Dark Zone. I HATED Mantrid and this episode wasn't all that good.
~
THE KEY
Xev, Stan and Kai return to the Lexx. Xev wants a chance to be captain but that means Stan will have to give her The Key to the Lexx but The Key can only be transferred at death or at the peak of sexual ecstasy. So Xev and Stan have mind-blowing sex and The Key transfers to Xev. However Kai realises Xev is not Xev but Prince in disguise. 790 and Stan are horrified.
GARDEN
Stan, the real Xev and Kai end up on the Water city of Garden whose bizarre inhabitants grow Lyekka 2.0 for Stan while Kai buries himself in a flowerbed and waits to decompose. Xev has a trip after eating some funny plants and Lyekka repays her creators by eating them. Everyone is unaware that the forces of Fire are massing an attack.
BATTLE
Garden is attacked by Fire and Lyekka is killed again. Prince kidnaps Xev and Stan and Kai go to the rescue. Prince and Xev end up stranded in the desert where Prince tries to recruit Xev. But he is unaware of Xev being half-clusterlizard which gives her a survival edge.
GIRLTOWN
Stan and Kai and Xev end up in Girltown, which is run by a nasty Queen who is all too familiar to Stan. Kai tries to do a good deed and help the Girltown slaves escape to Water but Lexx thwarts him by eating the fleeing slaves and sending Kai and Stan plummeting down to the surface of Water.
THE BEACH
Stan and Kai splashdown on Water. Kai sinks to the bottom while Stan drowns and finds himself on a beach being judged by Prince. Stan realises that Water and Fire are the afterlife and his destination is being decided. Meanwhile Xev and 790 search for Kai and Stan. Meanwhile Kai reaches the bottom of the sea only to wake back on Gametown.
HEAVEN AND HELL
Stan is doomed to hell (Fire) so Kai goes after him. Determined to free them Xev has Lexx destroy Fire. This brings Stan backs to life and frees Kai from the bowels of the planet but it also unleashes many, many damned souls from Fire who head off to an unknown destination. Prince then possesses Lexx and destroys Water and the heavenly souls head off to the same place the damned souls did. Utterly freaked out Xev, Stan, Kai and 790 prepare to leave only to discover a new planet in the system. They head for it unaware that the very angry Prince is hurtling toward that same planet. A planet that just happens to be Earth thus setting up season 4 which I've never watched.

Earth can be darker than space.
PILOT
The year is the then future 2007 and the space shuttle Odyssey is in Earth orbit. Onboard is Chuck Taggart (Peter Weller), the mission commander, his son Neil (Christopher Gorham of 'Covert Affairs', 'Harper's Island' and 'Jake 2.0'), obnoxious scientist Kurt, the annoying mission specialist Angela and introvert reporter Sarah. This motley bunch witness the destruction of the planet Earth, somehow only a Ford car survives. Then an alien calling himself The Seeker shows up. He sends their consciousness back in time 5 years to stop the death of Earth. This doesn't go well and they uncover some very strange goings on. This was a brilliant start to the show. How did Neil go from being a druggie loser at 17 to a famous astronaut at 22? How did the space shuttle survive the destruction of Earth? What is Leviathan 4.3? Of course the space shuttles came to an end in 2011.
SHATTERER
The team tries to locate Professor Chandra who may know something about the whole Bright Sky/Leviathan conspiracy. But along the way they meet a young woman who isn't human and learn that something strange is going on the woods. Another good episode.
ASTRONAUT DREAMS
Sarah ropes Angela into helping her prevent the abduction and murder of a little girl, only to learn that their interference could prove fatal. Meanwhile Project Bright Sky is accelerated and Chuck has to screw over a protégéé and sabotage a NASA mission. Another good episode. You have to feel sorry for Neil, his parents adore his golden boy brother Marc and ignore him.
TIME OUT OF MIND
Kurt marries a woman who in 2007 will be a worldwide star of South-American techno-rap music but this act causes the team to loose their future memories. Kurt turns into a drunk, Angela turns hostile, Neil ends up in jail and Chuck gets violent. Kurt has to turn to a sci-fi writer for advice. Can The Seeker be trusted?
SYMBIOSIS
Neil receives a mysterious email, which leads to a young girl who has some very special friends. The Sentient/Synthetic threat gets stepped up a notch and this is very creepy.
THE CHOICES WE MAKE
A mysterious being forces the team to relive traumatic past events: Chuck remembers his bastard father, Angela and Kurt have the possibility for a new future, Neil remembers a friend and Sarah has a choice. Good.
RAPTURE
Neil's friends are taking a sentient-created drug and to get a sample of it for Kurt, Neil has to take it. Neil's trip reveals the mission to the drug dealer. Chuck isn't the least bit concerned about Neil even when he is bleeding from the eyes and screaming. A good episode. Neil punches his father and tells him how bitter he is about Marc being the adored golden boy, Chuck of course doesn't listen. Chuck ties Neil to the chair with way too much enthusiasm. There is a Cadre within NASA trying to destroy the space programme, why?
L.D.U.-7
Sarah, Kurt and Chuck go undercover in a prison to meet a young man who killed his parents. They think the parents could have been synthetics. Angela is apparently posted to the International Space Station and Neil tries to help Marc with his exams. This a majorly creepy episode, just why are the sentients studying violent prisoners? Very freaky.
FLUX
Chuck gets scratched by a crazy man and ends up slowly transforming into a Synthetic. He acts crazy, stares at water obsessively, leaves Paige and tries to kill Neil. Meanwhile his moronic son Marc agrees to spy on his father for The Cadre so he won't be kicked out of the astronaut program. As for poor Neil, his mother disses him and then slaps him, his brother shoves him around and his evil father doesn't apologise for trying to kill him. As all this goes on Sarah loses her marriage and her son. In the final scene Kurt proves to have too many secrets. A good show that ratchets up the tension.
KITTEN
Neil gets a stalker in the form of a deranged Sentient named Kit-10. Angela is on the international space station and nobody likes her. Sarah's husband won't listen to her but maybe her mother-in-law will. Neil takes his shirt off and Kurt acts even more untrustworthy. A good episode. Chuck doesn't seem the least bit concerned about his son being stalked, someone call child services. How did dunking a computer in a fishtank full of antifreeze stop the Sentient?
BEGOTTEN
Mendel receives a message and heads off to a small town to help prepare the way for the lord. Meanwhile boring Angela has a revelation about her nasty but boring dad. An entertaining episode with some good stuff in it.
TROUBLE WITH HARRY
A comedy episode, a Sentient named Harry Mudd steals a Synthetic body and heads off to alert the team to a threat posed by a crazed Sentient and some negatively charged quarks. Hilarious and very, very, very good. Does Neil not go to school anymore?
SKIN
Marc has pissed off. Aunt Jenny has shown and Chuck has abandoned the mission, the team and his son. Hey Chuck, technically Neil is a minor - just wait Mr big shot astronaut 'til the cops bust you for CHILD ABANDONMENT. Angela is actually interesting in this episode and her father is revealed as a politician and the mastermind behind Project Bright Sky. Chuck just abandons his one remaining family member. No wonder Chuck's father hated him.
Best Lines:
"The world did not explode because my father is an a**hole!"
"You do not know that."
VANISHING POINT
Chuck finally stops moping over his dead wife, Sarah gets lucky and Neil gets something to do. Great stuff. Chuck is such a jerk, no wonder Marc (Kenneth Mitchell of 'Jericho') ran away. Poor Neil, your mother dies, your brother goes AWOL, your father pulls a knife on you and your girlfriend is a bitch. Poor Neil. Do the words thank you not exist for Chuck? The inside of Chuck's mind is a scary place.
RAGE
The unknown enemy are using water and electricity to make the residents of a suburb go crazy. Does Chuck not have a job anymore?
FOSSIL
This was excellent. It ended on a massive cliffhanger and turned the show mthos on its head. his was brilliant stuff as everything we thought we knew was revealed to be wrong and the perceived heroes and villains dramatically switched places. We learnt a lot and season 2 would have been so cool. This was the best episode bar none. Everything they've done has been noticed and all the past events come back to bite them in a major way. Angela is dead! But who did it? Everything Chandra told them was a lie. So the moon is hollow, the moonrock is an artificial construct and tied into Mars. Never trust kindly old Apollo astronauts in wheelchairs. I no longer trust Neil. And the biggest revelation of all: The Cadre and Senator Perry are the good guys! They've been fighting the sentients all along. Project Bright Sky was meant to save the world but Chuck sabotaged it and may have doomed the world. The Cadre thinks the O5 crew is working with the sentients! They also think Chuck had something to do with what happened to Angela. Chuck is in so much trouble. Kurt is hauled off for killing Angela. Will Chuck's sabotage of Bright Sky destroy the world? How will Kurt get out of the murder charge? Is Neil evil? Shame this was axed and forgotten.

The Drumhead
People wear space clothes, there is sabotage on the ship and Jean Simmons shows up to snoop. Word spyhunts. This was dull.
~
This starred Julianne Nicholson as Marian Kitt, Gabriel Macht as Mark Gabriel, Melissa Crider as Satori, Bill Cobbs as Elmer Greentree, John Billingsley as Professor Miles Ballard, Kevin J. O'Connor as Warren Day and John Aylward as Albert McGonnagal.
PILOT
College student Marian moves into the dormitory room where a young woman recently died and senses an alarming supernatural force as she reluctantly turns to the Others -- a small but diverse group of people dedicated to analysing their extrasensory abilities -- who urge her to embrace her talent. They help her put the ghost to rest and ease the guilt of the dead girl's boyfriend but is Marian grateful? No, she is a thankless bitch.
UNNAMED
The snotty and smug Satori tries to help a mother whose son has been missing for 3 years. Marian and Mark unravel the mystery and The Others learn that a dreadful dark force is coming. Not too great.
EYES
A vile yuppie has laser eye surgery and as a result sees horrific demons that threaten his sanity. Meanwhile Marian has visions of Albert's nightmare war in Korea.
SOULS ON BOARD
The Others board a plane to a psychic conference but learn that Miles purposely booked them on the same flight path previously occupied by an aircraft that recently crashed, and the harrowing visions they witness are thought to be somehow linked to parts salvaged from the wreckage -- and recycled onto their jetliner. There are horrific visions and encounters and messages from beyond. Can Miles piece it all together to save the plane and put to rest the tormented souls of the dead passengers. This was eerie eerie especially the opening scene of the voices from beyond on the crashed plane's black box.
1112
The group helps a woman grieving for her child and husband killed in a car accident--a process complicated when they discover that the husband is not yet dead and the woman blames her dead child for the tragedy. Not good at all.
LUCIFEROUS
Marian becomes convinced The Others are stalking her and ratchets her obnoxious shrillness to ever more unbearable levels. Oh and guess what the wallpaper in her new apartment is possessed by Satan.
THETA
Marian considers joining a sorority but instead ends up helping the troubled and haunted Jenny who is being terrorised psychically by her evil murderous father. The sorority sisters treatment of Jenny is hideous.
DON'T DREAM IT'S OVER
I missed this one.
THE ONES THAT LIE IN WAIT
Guest starring Kristen Cloke as a demon. On a dark and stormy night, in many separate locations The Others are tormented, tricked and terrorised by the entrance demon Rabisu who wants to know what they want. Cloke is nicely ominous as the demon and this is another brilliant episode.
TILL THEN
Elmer has flashbacks to his days in WW2 when he was based in England helping dead RAF pilots cross over. But there was one who refused to go, and his fate is now intertwined with that of a downed American pilot who is lost in the Iraqi desert. A nice and sad exploration of Elmer's past.
$4.95 A MINUTE
Guest starring James Morrison. A fake cash-hungry psychic is frightened when his disastrous visions of his clients' futures begin to come true, so he seeks help from his more serious competition -- Satori -- who agrees to aid him.
MORA
Mark is so boring and Marian is just dumb.
LIFE IS FOR THE LIVING
Guest starring Kristen Cloke. The final ever episode. Elmer dies but returns to life in hospital and again senses the presence of the entrance demon (Cloke) and as a result has flashbacks to 30 years ago when Alison (Cloke) was a member of The Others and a very powerful psychic and as a result was possessed by the demon. Meanwhile The Others all get what they desire. Marian gets a free spirited possibly romantic roommate. Mark and Satori can touch without stuff exploding. Miles gets a job at a prestigious university Warren gets one of his diaries made into a movie scrip Albert finds love. But none of them connect with with the demon's first apperance and when Elmer tries to warn them they all reject him as a jealous old man and abandon him. As a result Marian is strangled by her roomate, Mark and Satoridie in an explosion, Warren is run over by a car, Miles dies in a car wreck, the demon kills Elmer and Albert is rejected by his love. Considering their horrible behaviour they all deserved it, except Elmer. A good episode with Cloke nicely evil as the innocent transformed into a monster.
