This photo is of my grandfather at a much later date. You can just make out a wedding ring. I believe it was taken in Korea.

Joyce Darling:

Hi sweetheart! I'm back again, with a letter that is. I wish I was really back right now. 18 more days to go. 25,920 hours minutes approximately. And don't think I haven't been counting every one of them.

By the way in case you didn't look before you opened this take another look at the return address. I'm spelling Pfc with a Cpl. now. I just made it yesterday. 3 Cpl and 1 Sgt rate came out. This is turning out to be a pretty good cruise after all. We went out and celebrated yesterday. All you have to do is look at this letter and you can see that. There's one catch though over here. All servicemen have to be off the streets by 12:00 oclock. So they give us liberty at 9:00 in the morning untill 2:30 AM.

Every thing seems to be working out O.K. now but there's still one thing wrong. You don't seem to know what you want yet honey.

I got those 2 letters from you the other day. I was sweating out an answer from the last one I wrote and I was afraid to open them but from the way you talked you hadn't gotten that one yet. And I'm still waiting for an answer.

Damn it darling. I can't figure you out. I dont like being played with like a cat playing with a mouse. You write and say that you might go back to Tony and drive me half nuts and then you write again and say forget it just like it was nothing. Then you say you are lonely and couldn't stand

2.
being away from me but still you want me to stay in the service. Then you want your rings, then you don't. Sugar you're just like knowing 2 different people. Sometimes your letters are warm and then they get cold as hell.

I'm not in this to play games, I love you and I told you how I felt about it in my last letter

So why dont you think it out and let me know how you really feel. This yes and no business is driving me bats.

That's it for now sugar
Be seeing you soon. I love you

All My Love Always
Bob

"I love you" was also scribbled inside the envelope as well:
