Was just sitting around yesterday when I was struck by the sudden desire to sing and dance!
So weird. One minute I'm watching tv, a content couch potato, the next I'm absolutely heartsick missing my days back in undergrad, when I was going hip-hop/belly/salsa/swing dancing nearly everyday and singing in two choirs.
To remedy the dancing, I have decided to go to the Lindy Hop festival in a couple of weeks. It's a multi-day dance workshop with some awesome and world-renowned instructors, including the legendary Frankie Manning, one of the creators of Lindy Hop (yes, he's like a million years old). Now, I adore East Coast Swing/Jitterbug, but my Lindy experience is very minimal -- I can follow it, but I'm constantly cheating the feet. So I'm taking the 2-day 8-hour Lindy Beginner's workshop on the weekend. It should be awesome!
I am also sincerely tempted by
this dress and
these shoes. The shoes I may actually buy, since you can't Lindy in heels or sneakers without risking your knees. They may not look like much, but they're the dance standard.
For those unfamiliar with Lindy Hop, it is
teh awesome.(And
here's a faster example.)
To remedy the singing, I spent a little bit googling around for Houston choruses, but sadly enough every single group is audition-only, even the campus a cappella groups! Which SUCKS, since I'm a good singer and I've sung in a couple of really good a cappella choirs, but I will blow any audition. Can I audition via YouTube? *grumble* I'm only now starting to appreciate how good I had it in undergad, with a non-audition choir that was still really good and did a lot of fun songs like Zombie Jamboree and the Lion Sleeps Tonight. *misses her choir*
