guess which smartypants decided to go out today in summer dresses and/or without jackets?
if you said
epicflailer and/or
christine1411, you would be right!
we were so cold that after exiting the met, we went straight for the guy selling these godawful, oversized, touristy new york hoodies and both got one each, and slipped them right over our dresses. i wish i had photos, but for the sake of your eyes, it is probably best that i didn't have any.
new york's been good to us otherwise, though, so far. except for the fact that christine's flight was cancelled due to a mechanical failure, and she arrived here 4 hours later than we'd expected on friday. all we managed to do that night was try the famous 53rd and sixth halal streetcart, but oh my gosh, that was so good we went back again last night for a second helping. definitely one of the best lamb dishes i've ever tried, and i've had my fair share of lamb. thank you,
liza1131!
we took to the streets yesterday, heading out for this flea market walk suggested by the new york times that took up most of the afternoon and evening. it wasn't the most exciting walk, but we ventured off-route a couple of times to look at other things that caught our eye, so that was fun. and we stopped by magnolia bakery (which is ridic close by our hotel) for cupcakes. i was underwhelmed, but since i'm not a cupcake person in general, that probably explains it. (fear not,
paitac, i fully intend to try that banana pudding before i leave!) we also managed to sneak some time for banana shpeel, which is sort of a part of cirque du soleil, but it was nothing special - although, unf, the russian pole-dancer dude was pretty sweet.
this morning we took things a little easier. we had our leftover lamb/chicken over rice for breakfast, then set off to the nbc experience store to get our new york city explorer passes ($70 for 3 of 44 attractions is not a terrible deal) before heading towards central park/the met. we walked past the marionette theatre, and the castle, and the turtle pond, and shakespeare garden, which was all kinds of lovely, because i've never seen any of those flowers in my life. i didn't even recognize half of them.
the met was... something else. mostly because i have, like, zero interest in art, especially modern art, which i find kind of pretentious (like, okay, don't even use the i'm making crappy, kindergardener-looking art on purpose spiel on me, because you don't see me writing shitty fic on purpose and then STARTING A WHOLE NEW GENRE FOR IT, okay, whatever, feel free to defriend at will because nothing is going to change my mind about this, and two good pieces out of a trillion won't, either). but i did get to see cool music instruments, and stuff like that, so. not a total loss, i guess, kind of like the louvre.
anyway, after, we made our way to shake shack (in our awesome, touristy get-up, lmfao forever), and just--OM NOM NOM. i am totally headed that way again if i can swing it, especially if my throat's better by then, because i want a peanut butter shake. and also a shroom burger (not that i didn't enjoy my second city bird dog). and more cheese fries. mmm, food.
i wish i wasn't still homesick for montreal, though. and for my roommates.
