Review: I'm not often enamored with kid fics or baby fics, but this fic is one of those that I come back to reread time and time again, because it's just that brilliant.
The summary above doesn't give it away, but the premise of this fic is a typical comic plot: Something went wrong somewhere in the Marvel multiverse and all world's are threatened. But suddenly different world are connecting, and the Tony of the post-Civil War 616 universe and Commander Rogers have tentatively worked things out between them and are working together again, but things are complicated. Even more complicated now that people from other universes fall through cracks and suddenly appear. There is a very touching moment between Tony and a Steve from a universe where he killed Tony.
The crisis cumulates into the appearance of Natasha Stark-Rogers from Marvel 3490 universe (where a female version of Iron Man is married to Captain America and this stopped a Civial War) and she's one of the last survivors of her universe, knows how to stop the crisis, and she's dying. But she brought something with her: Her son.
This fic does a wonderful job of showing the connection between Tony and his other self and of how he transitions into a father almost immediately, despite being scarred and overwhelmed by the whole process. All of that is done with a wonderful attention to canon details and characterization.
Comics!Tony especially at the time always has his bouts of depression and none of that is just disregarded. And the fic gives him lots of reason to be himself, worrying and feeling all the angst about a lot of things. But there are happy moments, domestic moments that surprise him and along the line the relationship with the infant that is now his grows - and he and Steve work things out, step by step, as they try to both be part of the kids life.
It's a very touching story and some parts of this always make me cry, so keep a handkerchief at the ready perhaps.
