Review:
Helix Trap starts as two parallel stories, with sections following Eames as he insinuates himself into Robert Fischer's life due to both fascination and concern, and following Arthur as he takes on a job with a leader in the dream research field. Soon, the stories overlap as the focus of everyone's attention, Robert, acts more and more erratically and all sides end up trapped in a bizarre and obscure form of dream extraction.
This fic is not the typical story I usually read in so many ways; not the usual pairings I follow, with slightly different characterizations from fanon, and with a tense feeling through out that kept me on the edge of my seat (a sensation I can't always take). But it is also a completely original take on Inception's dream-share hallmarks (projections, subconscious security, inception, levels), both expanding on and altering them in inventive ways.
I read it as a WIP, and was constantly checking for updates, because I could not wait to find out what happened next; the story has this constant forward momentum. I particularly liked the relationship between Eames and Robert in this, and sadly I must admit that their storyline was more compelling to me than Arthur and Ariadne's sections. There are also some very disturbing and creepy dream sections, with scary projections and issues of meddling in peoples minds that go even further than canon. Even so, the whole story is exciting and clever, and I highly rec it.
