(This is kind of sudden, but I'm sitting on a pile of Highlander recs and I'm still working through the SV and SGA Big Bang fics, so...)

It's Highlander Week here at Epic Recs!

Things to keep in mind:
-Recced stories can be any length, any fandom, and any pairing, as long as they fit the theme
-You don't need to write a review (unless you want to).  ( Read more... )

I have a soft spot for Dayspring's Save the Last Dance for me:

And have you read Tiranog's The Quality of Mercy series? It massive and well-written.

I also like Loch Ness' And Then Some, it's really well-written epic as well:

Great minds think alike -- I already have recs written for the first two and will be posting them this week:)

I haven't heard of the third one, however, which is pretty exciting. It's been a long time since I've found a HL story I haven't read before.

Thanks for the recs!

I hope you know "Sacred Trust" by Lanning Cook. That is a novel which is so amazingly well written and the story she tells is so unbelievably gripping that I still think about the end sometimes and shiver. Lanning Cook's writing made me interested in Highlander and The Sentinel, because I first read the stuff she wrote in the Smallville fandom. The link to all her stories is here http://lanning.slashdom.net/

I didn't see that I was not logged in. So, it's me, recommending "Sacred Trust". I really can not recommend Lanning Cook's writing highly enough. She is an amazing writer and I can't fathom that she is not published. I would buy anything from her!

Have you read the Line Wars series by Rhiannon at
http://rhi.moonlit-eyrie.com/stories/warnings.html#aidanseries
A really interesting take on Immortal subculture, with interesting original characters that don't overshadow the canon characters.

Huh, I don't think so -- I'll definitely check it out.

Thanks for the rec!

I think the highlander/x files crossover you're looking for is Darkest Hour by Killashandra at http://seacouver.slashcity.net/killa/darkhr1.html

Monica & Maygra qbic1 September 20 2008, 12:20:32 UTC
Though she has been out of HL fandom for many years, I still think Monica's stories at The GloryBox are some of the best outside the 'Big 3'. The Domesticity Series is just delightful, with the best OC and family attached. The Tribal Rituals is hot PWP turned serious series.

I know you posted this quite a while ago but it's taken me this long to find her again. I printed off all her stories when she warned fandom she was leaving. I'm thrilled she's still around to share with others.

Oh, and I must ask - If you've read MacGeorge, have you read Maygra? She had the most amazing, in-depth giant multi-novel series in HL for years before she moved to other fandoms. Some were works w/MacGeorge but quite a bit were single author. She is the only author I know who dared write a Highlander/Touch By an Angel gen xover - It was incredible!! But her slash was mind-blowing. Years after giving up most HL fanfic, I still re-read the Sheild Brother Arc regularly. And the Fate & Chance Cycle has deliciously dead-on characterization. Heck, all ( ... )

Thank you! It's been a long time since I've gotten any good HL recs, so I'm doubly grateful:)

Re: Maygra -- I've wanted to read the Shield Brothers Arc, but it comes with a *lot* of warnings (and, as everyone knows, I'm a wuss). Can you tell me just how serious those warnings are? Is most of the bad stuff graphic or off screen?

Thanks again!

Thank you! I'm actually pretty okay with violence (especially with immortals as, you know, they heal:) I'm more squicked by rape/torture/death/abuse/etc.

Man, I really am a wuss. :) But I'll definitely give the other stories a try and then maybe ease my way into the arc.

Thanks again!
