I had an adventure today!
Katie is back in New York (from New Orleans) for a little while over Christmas, and no one in her family could pick her up from the airport when her flight got in. In this way, I got recruited to come meet her and I in turn got Maura involved since Maura actually has a car. At 11:30-ish Maura showed up at my house so we could begin our epic journey to Newark Airport. I was informed that I would be driving because Maura needed time to finish knitting the scarf she was making as a Christmas gift for Katie. So I drove and followed the instructions of the GPS because I don't really know how to get to Newark from my house. I mean, I know the general direction but I don't really go that direction too often.
What I do know is that when I have gone to Newark Airport in the past, we definitely stayed on the Garden State Parkway or something all the way down, but stupid GPS was having none of that. For whatever reason, we ended up going through the actual city of Newark. This was stupid and inconvienient because the route we took involved all sorts of traffic lights and the GPS's instructions were unclear and Newark sucks. Also the Devils play in Newark now and as we all know the Devils are totally lame. The only good part of this excursion through Newark was the fact that we got some SUPER CHEAP GAS for the car. But Newark is terrible
Then we got to the airport, at which point we realized we had no idea what airline Katie was flying in on. We ended up driving around the airport road maybe 10 times because we were really early. I know that road like the back of my hand at this point (which might help because I will back in Newark next week). It turned out she was in terminal A. And finally we met up with her and it was exciting! I had seen her last month in Boston when she was up there but Maura hadn't seen her since probably June. We now began the next portion of our adventure (I was still driving) and headed to Riverdale. Katie was desperate for a burger from Piper's Kilt, and to tell you the truth I was too because the burgers there are SO GOOD (best burgers in NYC? Maybe.). Obviously it was fantastic and I was starving because at this point it was about 2:30 and I hadn't eaten all day (neither had Katie and she had been up since 3 am or something).
After this and some argument from Katie, we set off to drive Katie home to Fishkill. Katie insisted she would just take the train up from Marble Hill, but Maura was having none of that and refused to take her to the trainstation. So we all got back in the car (I no longer had to drive) and headed north out of the city towards Duchess County. When we got near Yorktown Heights, Maura decided to make a quick stop so we could visit her boyfriend Chris at work. WHICH WAS AWESOME OMG. He works at this hobby shop sort of place and it specializes in these little race cars and in the middle of the store is this huge table with a race track for the cars. You but the cars on these tracks and control them with these hand held controllers and race them, which Katie, Maura, and I obviously did. I was so into it because I am 12 years old. Sometimes the cars would go too fast around curves and flip off the tracks which I found thoroughly amusing, because like I said, I'm 12. Finally Maura said that we had to get going since she had somewhere to be later that night, and finally Katie got to go home.
Afterwards Maura took me home, and let me tell you I am drained. Right now I'm just watching my Rangers (they're up 3-0 at the moment!) and enjoying some English muffin pizzas. Oh and as I just wrote that the Rangers scored again. 4-0! Yay!
Today was a good day and I am happy.
